Emerson MW8107WA Microwave causing apartment fuse blow

Every time I begin to cook or defrost using my microwave the fuse for my apartment blows. I have only had this problem for the past week or so. I would like to know if this is a repair worth my time and money and if I can do it on my own? Thanks

I have had this same problem, ONLY, since moving into my newly built house! I tried moving the microwave to a different location to see if it might be that outlet but it is still doing it. My thought is to buy a new microwave but do I stick with the same watts or do I need to go down???? Hmmmm......

It seems that something within the microwave must have fried in the power supply unit. This should not be a very expensive repair, However, get a technician t take a look and give you a rough estimate before you decide to repair.

What causes microwave to blow new fuse?

The only thing inside a microwave oven that draws enough current to blow a fuse is the magnetron that generates the microwaves to provide the cooking power. Based on the age of the unit (approx 15 years) it is most likely best to just replace it as repairs at that level are not cost effective. Newer units cook better and faster using less power these days.

Oil leaking?

The only oil would be in the high voltage capacitor.
If that fails, either the oven will stop cooking, or the fuse will blow as soon as you press the "Start' key to begin cooking.
More likely it is grease from cooking and just needs a cleaning.

Whirlpool microwave fuse has blown multiple times

It depends on which fuse and when it blows. Wish you had mentioned that.

But usually it's a defective door switch or door switch mount.

If the fuse blows at random times while it's cooking, it may just be a loose fuse holder. Those have to be replaced due to metal fatigue, not just squeezed tight with pliers.

If it blows as soon as you hit "Start" to begin cooking, you have a shorting high voltage capacitor.

If it blows when you open or close the door, you have a loose or defective door switch or latch.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

My microwave just went out, plug it up and it doesnt come on

You might have blow the internal fuse. If you are hand enough you can take the top cover off and follow the incoming power cord. Before the huge transformer there will be a fuse.

I have never used the power feature and now I need to and cant find manual. How does the power feature work. I need to operate the microwave on medium power for one minute.

1 Use the number buttons to set a cooking
time. You can set a time from one second to
99 minutes, 99 seconds. To set a time over
one minute, enter the seconds too. For
example, to set 20 minutes, enter 2, 0, 0, 0 .
2 If you want to set the power level to
something other than High, press the Power
Level button, then use the number buttons
to enter a power level.
Power Levels:
Level Cooking PL
3 Defrost 30
4Medium Low40
6 Simmer 60
7 Medium High 70
8 Reheat 80
9 Saute 90
10 High Hi

Hope that helps.

Our microwave just started blowing fuses. What could be wrong and how would we get it fixed?

I would say that it is most likely the capacitor. You need to be careful, because the capacitor has the capability of holding a large charge, even if it is unplugged.

Also, some companies wire fuses to blow if mechanical safeties trip, the most common being the door interlock.

It can be a safety hazard to try and repair this on your own, so I would recommend calling an Appliance Repair Technician.

Where is the fuse

remove the outer cover and the fuse is either on top or on the side in a fuse holder clip,it takes a special "ceramic-fuse" available at hardware stores, if it blows again.suspect a h.v. capacitor, diode, magnetron, or exposed wire arcing

Yesterday, my sharp carousel r-1460 went dead. I took apart the front keypad and replaced the 20amp fuse behind it. the microwave light and fan work. But, when I start microwave to cook something, pop! fuse...

If the 20A fuse is blowing, it is often the high voltage transformer or magnetron. If this is the case, and the microwave is not under warranty, replace it. Residential microwaves are generally considered disposable. Parts and labor are just too expensive. A magntron or transformer can cost more that half the cost of a new microwave.
