Question about Maytag MMV5000 Microwave Oven

1 Answer

MMV5000ADW Maytag Microwave Keypad stops working. The light switches on and off when the door is operated and works fine. The time display is working. The keypad is non-responsive. Please help figure out what could be wrong. Have removed power supply and reconnected after two days and still same problem. Thanks!

The unit is probably 5-6 years old and came with the house. Used to work fine until water was heated one day. I have taken the keypad apart and just reconnected the wires. The fuse looks okay. It is a ceramic one. If the fuse was bad, Would the light work?

The keypad is sticky due to oil residue. Can I blow dry it with some hot air and wipe it?

Thanks for the reply. Was there a recall on this unit due to faulty wiring?

How old is this unit? have you taken it apart?there was at one time a wiring issue with these units, depends on the age.other wise I'd say you have a bad touchpad it was another common issue with this unit. part number 56001263 in white runs around $80

If the fuse was bad you would have no power, unfortunately when the keypad goes bad the only thing you can do is replace it,If you can push any key and get no response at all then the keypad is bad or the control is just not recognizing the commands but I replaced more keypads on this unit than boards.

It wouldn't hurt to call Maytag to see if it was a recalled unit.

The MMV5000 series had some serious wiring issues so make sure you check with Maytag to see if this one was repaired they will be able to tell by the serial number.

My microwave doesn't work, but display works

I would strongly consider replacing the microwave oven, prices have dropped considerably. The problem you are describing is in the keypad controller board.

Microwave does not work nothing on the control pad work the pad just says se

Hello

Check the power supply. Make sure the microwave is firmly plugged into a working electrical outlet and that your wall outlet is active if your home uses outlets controlled by a wall switch. Check your home's fuses or circuit breakers to ensure they have not been tripped. Without power the microwave will not respond to any input.

Make sure the parental lock is inactive. Some ovens, like the one shown in the image above, feature a keypad lock to prevent children playing with the controls. Most keypad locks can be cancelled by holding down a button or combination of buttons for a few seconds.

Make sure the door is firmly closed. Some microwave ovens will not allow any control panel input if the door is open.

Remove the microwave from the power, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. This will reset the microwave oven if there is a temporary problem with the software.

Press the "Stop/Cancel" button several times to cancel the current operation and return the microwave to standby mode. Re-enter your cooking instructions using the keypad as usual.

HELLO.

The solution is to troubleshoot the microwave as explained below.

1 Check the power supply. Make sure the microwave is firmly plugged into a working electrical outlet and that your wall outlet is active if your home uses outlets controlled by a wall switch. Check your home's fuses or circuit breakers to ensure they have not been tripped. Without power the microwave will not respond to any input.

3 Make sure the door is firmly closed. Some microwave ovens will not allow any control panel input if the door is open.

4 Remove the microwave from the power, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in. This will reset the microwave oven if there is a temporary problem with the software.

5 Press the "Stop/Cancel" button several times to cancel the current operation and return the microwave to standby mode. Re-enter your cooking instructions using the keypad as usual.

please let me know the outcome..

thanks.

Keypad does not always work

HI. you will need to replace this malfunctioning key pad asap. this will require you to disassemble the unit, in order to reach the actual touch pad board. It is not an easy task, and i recommend a professional tech, if possible.

Keypad Problems

Sometimes a keypad may not work because the door switches are faulty. When the door switches are working correctly it will allow the keypad to operate. They tell the microwave that the door is closed and the unit is dafe to use.

Many models have 3 door switches, it's wise to get all 3 replaced at once.

Sharp Microwave R-520L stopped working

My parents had the same problem. It turned out that a switch went bad. When you take the case off, there are 3 switches where the door latches. The bottom switch went bad. It is an Omron D3V-16G-3C25 switch.

A bad keypad may be worn out due to age, damaged, or it may have gotten wet or otherwise contaminated. Moisture and contamination can be caused by not using the hood fan when boiling on the stove top, spraying of cleaners, by storing the microwave in an unheated garage or shed, or infestation. I warn my customers to never spray cleaner directly onto the microwave keypad, since the liquid can get inside and "lock up" or even ruin the keypad or controller. Apply an alcohol-based cleaner (such as the purple kind) to a cloth (since paper towels can scratch) and gently wipe it off. I suggest to my customers that they NEVER use any ammonia-based cleaner (like the blue stuff) on a microwave, since the ammonia will crack and distort polycarbonate plastics. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety and disassembly info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your base model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

LG 1925 Microwave suddenly stopped cooking, other functions work fine!

What you said about the the clock leads me to suggest that you first unplug it for a few minutes then plug it back in. It may just need a good reset. If you don't have your owner's manual you can download one here: http://www.lge.com/support/manual.jsp The mention of odor concerns me. It may just be a bit of food or grease on the waveguide cover, which is a small sheet or panel on the wall or ceiling of the cooking cavity, but it may indicate the failure of a part in the high voltage section. You may have an intermittent door switch. You can see some of my other responses for info on how to get our important text file that helps you diagnose and repair door switches and gives important safety tips.

Microwave just totally stopped working

It's probably a bad door switch or it's loose in its mount. I have complete help text files on safety, disassembly and door switches. With help from those, you or a friend can safety disassemble the unit to check and replace the door switches. You can find me via a search on Yahoo.com (not Google) for microwave circuit repair
