Faint copies, despite new cartridge.

The printer, which had been working fine, suddenly began to print faint copies. I put in a new cartridge, but the problem persists.

Go to Additional Functions> Common Settings> Toner Saver Mode and make sure its off.

Open the rear of the printer and make sure theres no paper jam or broken parts.

Try printing a document with the rear of the printer open and watch to see if anything out of the ordinary happens.

My Dell 1700n Drum and Toner Cartridge were both replaced when the drum replace light blinked and the print was getting lighter. Despite resetting the Drum counter the printer still only prints faintly...


Have you checked the fuser?

A laser printer fuser assembly is the heating roller unit that melts and fuses the toner onto the paper. The fuser assembly is made up of a heating roller and a pressure roller.

The heating roller applies the heat to the toner on the printed page and the pressure roller presses and fuses the toner into the printed page. If it's bad and not heating properly, the print will be faint, which is what you describe. You may be able to remove and clean the fuser, but if the printer gets lots of use, it may just be worn out.

While color cartridge prints well, the black and white -- despite new cartridges -- is faint and/or blurry.


Hi, you are facing this issue as your Black ink Cartridge is empty, if you open the hud of the printer you will see there are two Cartridge, one is for Color and one is for Black, your color cartridge is fine as it will printing properly. In order to resolve the you need to change the color cartridge. If you want to replace the Cartridge by your own below weblink will help you:

Printer copies are very faint and barely legible


Would help knowing the make and model of the printer but sounds like a drum fault to me.

Unable to resolve 'cartridge has been changed' error message


turns out the wrong paper size was selected in the print setup. I set it to Postcard (4x6) and it began working perfectly again. Hooray.

OfficeJet G85 Makes Unreadable Copies


Usually, it's the print cartridge. I recently installed a new black cartridge on a 6110 printer and it, too, was very faint in printing. It turned out to be "dried up", even though it was a new cartridge in a sealed bag (but purchased in 2005).

Black is used on all prints. Did you pull the tape on the new cartridge?
