Question about Compaq Inkjet IJ650 Printer
I have canceled all print jobs and shut down the printer and computer and re-started but the problem persists. This is a "new to me printer" and I successfully downloaded the software from an HP site and it is showing the printer. What is wrong? I tried printing from Notepad- following the instructions and that didn't work either.

Onmly Compaq will have the approprive driver download. You are correct to assume a Vista compatability issue- this is becoming more evirdent with many peripherals. By the bye- the printer is of course a rebadged Lexmark or HP or Brother [ can be either] see if you can see which and check the appropriate web site. this happens sometimes and just requires for you to delete all of your print jobs, shut down your computer and restart

This can be the result of a corrupted font or a corrupted printer driver. Though it is a bit dated, please use this article to help you troubleshoot the source of the problem (even though you are not using word, it will help.) It may be necessary to reinstall the printer driver.
If you're in xp, you may first wish to try deleting all print jobs and clearing the print spooler cache. See instructions here.
If you need to download the latest printer driver from HP, you can do that by clicking here and choosing your OS. Here's a guide to updating drivers if you want a tutorial for that.
Finally, here are some troubleshooting links that may help in the event that the previous didn't work, or you wish for more detailed instructions.
I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue. If you need further assistance, please post back with a comment to this thread.
If I've managed to answer your question or solve a problem, please take just a moment to rate this post....thanks!

My thought is that the refilled ink cartridge some how got damaged and will now not let this cartridge or even a new cartridge perform the cleaning function.
I have to say. It may be best to fully remove the power to the printer and it's connection to the PC before powering the printer down. Leave it sit for about an hour and then plug the printer back into the PC first and then plug it's power back in.
See if this may help.
