    Hi there,
    Thanks for the quick reply.
I tried many times all your instructions, but with no positive result.
On the classic thread example,i notice a similarity.
On my N96,there is light around the central big button, when i turn on the phone, and nothing more,no response to anything, unable even to turn off the phone.Does this mean anything?
    Thank you

Hi,

Occasionally things go wrong when using the Nokia Software Updater (NSU). The exact cause is often unknown but it can be caused by the NSU, the phone or even the computer itself.

The aim of this guide is to offer users a few tips and tricks that may aid recovery. The guide applies to most nokia phones, except the hard reset which only applies to S60 smartphones.

So how do you know if an update has failed?

A failure can show itself in a number of ways, the most common one is where the NSU freezes. If it does this during the first part of the process where it downloads the firmware from nokia your phone will be ok. You will see that your phone is still switched on so it's safe to cancel the process or just remove the cable from the phone.

If it freezes during the second phase when the computer is transferring the firmware to the phone this can be much more serious. When this happens leave your phone for at least 15 minutes before taking any further action. If after that time nothing has happened all you can do is pull the cable.

Another failure is where your computer crashes during the second phase. This is usually the worst type of failure and often leaves the phone unrecoverable, but still it's worth trying.

What can I do to recover from this failure?

The first thing to try is to remove the phones battery and leave it out for at least five minutes. Whilst doing this take the opportunity to reboot your computer in case you need it to help with recovery.

Now re-insert the battery and try to switch your phone back on. If it works then all is good but before trying to update again there is a few things you need to check. Make sure that your computer is fully up to date including the latest service pack and disable all non-essential programs that are running. Also disable any anti virus and anti spyware software that you may have, now try again.

If removing the battery failed to make it work then prepare your computer as mentioned above and run the NSU again. Follow all instructions and prompts that it gives you carefully as it may offer to recover your phone. If it doesn't try various combinations of connecting your phone whilst it's switched on, off and also try removing and reinserting the battery whilst it's connected. Make sure you wait in between each attempt to give the NSU time to detect the phone. This classic thread is a good example of someone who succeeded in recovering their phone. It's a good idea to keep trying and trying.

What if that method doesn't work?

The next thing to try is a hard reset. This method only applies to S60 smartphones with keypads (not touchscreens):

1. Switch off the phone.

2. Hold down the following three buttons: Green (the call answer button), * button, and '3' button.

3. While holding these buttons, hold the power button for a second to switch on the phone.

4. Release when the phone shows the nokia hands logo or shows other signs of life like the language selection screen.

It may take a few attempts and very flexible fingers.

Notes: On the N78 use the silver multimedia key instead of the green call key. On the 5800XpressMusic see this post for instructions on how to hard reset it.

So none of that worked, what happens next?

Unfortunately you have now tried everything possible to recover from the failure yourself. The last thing for you to do now is to contact a nokia care point in your country for help. If your phone is under warranty they will repair it for free, possibly while you wait.

    HI,

Think the firmware of your Phone is completely, the only way is flahing the phone ie, Installing the firmware once again.. But this should be done as harrdflash, means you should falsh your phone by taking it to the nearest service center to flash your phone.. OR even some local service center would falsh your phone for less cost

How to change my DVD language

Hello,

I dont think you can change the lanugage in DVD unless there is a option given on DVD to change the language .

If you want to change the language in notebook here are the steps:

1.Click theStartbutton
All Programs, and then click WindowsUpdate.
2.Click Check online for updates from Microsoft Update, and then wait while Windowslooks for the latest updates for your computer.
3.If any updates are found, click Optional updates are available
4.UnderWindows Vista Ultimate Language Packs, select only the language pack that you want (installing all of them might take up too much space on your drive.
5.follow the instructions and go to the Windows Update site to download the English display language. The language pack should be available in the optional downloads.

Please revert to me if the OS is different on your notebook or if you are looking for something else.

Why my n96 turns itself on and off

Hello bonganimutee,

if it's turning off because it's lacking battery power even after a full recharge, then you have a hardware problem that you need to get checked by a nokia care pint, it might be the battery, the charger or even the phone itself.
if on the hand battery power is ok, but the phone still turns off, then it might be a software problem. try to update/reinstall the firmware by downloading and installing nokia software updater from here:
http://europe.nokia.com/softwareupdate
"remeber to backup your phone contents using ovi suite"
another way to update the firmware os OTA, instructions are here:
http://europe.nokia.com/A41189822

if you feel that you can't carry any of the above procedures, please leave this to your nokia care point to do, you can find the nearest one to you through here:
http://europe.nokia.com/A4388379

i hope that will solve your problem

Thanks.

Hello my name is Danielle and my nokia n96 will not turn over after I did an update that was not completed because it showed an error. What can I do? Thanks

Your phone is dead but you can fix it by taking it to a cellphone repair center. They can flash your cellphone so that the firmware will be fixed. Updating your firmware is simple as long as you have sufficient battery because when the update has been interrupted, it will result to what happened to your phone. Also make sure that the usb cable will not be moved..

N96 keeps crashing, shortcuts missing, messaging already in use

Its been a year so there must be definatel a newer firmware version available for your phone. Just get the Nokia Update Manager software in your computer and try updating the phone. Should solve all your problems and just make sure that you take a back up of your data because after an update you will loose all your phone memmory data. Mass Memory stays unaffected.

I bought the nokia n96 and the language is chinese how do i change it to english?

As you do not know Chinese, you will have to use the hit and trial method. From the icons in the menu look for settings, then for phone and finally for Language. There, one by one try and locate English or whatever you want. Time consuming yes but there is no other alternative. Have patience and work with caution.

Language in zen

To reset the language displayed on a ZEN player to English, change the language back to English or run Cleanup from the player.
For detailed instructions on how to access the Recovery Mode of a MP3 player, please see Recovery Mode: What to Do and How to Access.
If the player is a flash based player, such as a ZEN Nano, ZEN Nano Plus or MuVo, the language can be reset by manually changing the language or updating the firmware. To manually change the language:
  1. Press the scroll wheel to access the main menu.
  2. Scroll to the Settings option (the icon looks like a gear).
  3. Scroll to the Language option (the icon looks like a pearson speaking).
For detailed instructions on how to update the firmware of a MP3 player, please see Updating the Firmware on a Creative MP3 Player.
