Question about Olympus Camedia D-540 Zoom Digital Camera

I can not take pictures

Help-yesterday after moving the switch to the camera icon the lens opens up and the screen appears a second and then it returns to the pictures on the card . I can't take any pictures :( .
Is it the switch or do I need a new memory card ?
I had this camera for around three years.

same issue, worked fine, then yest. it wouldn't open up the lens. I thought perhaps the switch was not moving all the way, but it is. changed batteries and it worked once, then no more. tried clearing and re-formatting the card, no good. It works when hooked to the computer, and if you place images on the card it will view them, but will not take new ones.

Update, possible solution..
I pulled the batteries for 24 hours, attempting to force a reset of the camera. Today it worked, took pictures and zoomed just fine. I shut it off after about 10 pics and turned it back on and back to the start... Took the batteries out for a few minutes and put it back in and back in business. Hope this helps at least get SOME functionality out of it. This won't serve as a long term solution for me, but perhaps will lead towards a full answer.

My coolpics s6 has a black screen when in picture taking mode - as if the lens is not open. icons display, and show pictures mode works ok.

Switch on the screen in setup. The screen is now in 'power saving' mode and does not lit up while taking pictures.

When you turn the camera on, try it with the lens facing upwards and it should work, I had the same problem. Hope this helps :)

E 18 problem

This error is caused by a faulty lens motor, contaminated transmission, or mechanical damage from dropping. Unfortunately, there is no easy fix for this and it requires service from Canon or other repair facility.

Screen black in all lighting. Icons and menu show and can view photos already on card, but screen black in all modes. Can take picture, but it is also black. Lens cover is open. Nikon Coolpix 4600. Thanks...

Hello, I went and researched a few points in the manual and hope this helps to some extent. If this doesn't help, try resetting your camera by removing the batteries for 30 seconds, then reinstalling them and turning on the camera again.
Monitor is blank:
• Camera is off.
• Batteries are not correctly inserted or battery-chamber
cover is not properly latched.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• EH-62B AC adapter (available separately) is not properly
connected.
• Camera is in sleep mode. Press shutter-release button
halfway.
• Monitor is off.
• USB cable is connected.
• AV/Video cable is connected

No picture is taken when shutter release button is pressed:

• Camera is in playback mode.
• Batteries are exhausted.
• Red (!) lamp flickers: flash is charging.
• Green (AF) lamp flickers: camera unable to focus.
• Message "CARD IS NOT FORMATTED" appears in
monitor: memory card is not formatted for use in your
camera.
• Message "OUT OF MEMORY" appears in monitor:
insufficient memory to record picture at current Image
mode setting.
