Question about Goodman Heating & Cooling

Goodman GMPN080-4 Rev A (1996 on info. tag) will

Goodman gas furnace [GMPN080-4 Rev A (1996 on info. tag)] will not start or run. LED will blink 3X.
Have checked to ensure it's getting power, have tried w/ the panel on and off and the little fuse is OK.
It's a gas furnace. I can smell a little gas, so there seems to be fuel. Setting the thermostat (or just shorting the wires near the furnace) and it does not start. No flame, no motor running, etc.
An LED light will blink (I think three times).
It's a solo unit (no AC).
A friend and I troubleshot it for awhile, it's getting power, we ruled out the thermostat (and the wire-run) by shorting the wires near the unit. We pulled out the fuse on the circuit board and it looked new.
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Cool. Thanks!

Will take me until tomorrow to try that; but it sounds like we're on the right track.

I looked around inside before and don't remember seeing a code (decoder) sheet. Do you know where I can find one; perhaps online?

    Thanks again,

Ok the light blinking 3 times is flashing a code. There should be a sticker located on the bottom blower compartment door inside that will tell you what the code is. You should not smell any gas so there may be a small gas leak somehwere on the connector or unit. Ok here is what should happen. When you put the thermostat in demand or jump the heat on wires the inducer motor is the first thing that should come on. The motor is what pulls the burner flames into the firebox tubes and forces the fumes up the vent pipe. If the inducer motor is not coming on then verify that the motor is getting power and spins freely & is not stuck. Motor should turn easily. There is a vcuum line that comes off the inducer motor to a vacuum switch. This switch activates when the inducer motor is on. You should have power to one side of the switch when the heat is in demand. You can try jumping the switch and see if the igniter comes on but be carfeul. If the gas burners come on and the inducer motor is not running the burner flames will back out and smother. You could do this just to verify that the inducer motor is the main problem. There are also flame roll-out sensors that are located on the unit that have a little tab to re-set them. If one of these sensors is tripped the unit will not come on. I would be interested to hear what code is flashing. It may flash twice. For example 3 times and then paues and three times again would be 33. My guess would be that the inducer motor is stuck or not getting power from the control board. Let me know what you find and I will assist you further.

There is usually a sticker somewhere inside the unit but you should be able to get it off the goodman website. It may not be on the removable door but inside the blower compartment.

Goodman furnace model gmp125-4 constant fast blinking red light on circuit board, furnace dont work, have moisture in bottom from seeping drip pan under acoil

There should be a chart pasted to the inside of the front access panel of the furnace. It will tell us what that particular blinking sequence means. Goodman isn't listing a gmp125-4 furnace so I need to assume it is a condensing gas furnace. I water has backed up into the draft inducing fan, the furnace will shut down. There is no reason for water dripping from the drain pan unless your A/C is running and the drain on the pan is plugged. Give me all the info. you can and exactly what is happening. Please look up the coded problem for me. I'll watch for your reply. I hope this is not too late to help.

I have a goodman furnace GMP100-4 REV B..about a year ago it was not working. The fan would start but it would not ignite. We found out we need a new ignitor and it was a good quick easy fix. Now a ye

Any light flashin on the control board? If not then look for a small fuse blown on the board. See lights a flashing count them flashes

A sampling of various failure codes on a furnace:

Read one LED flash that stays on continuously to mean your furnace has no signal coming from the thermostat and will not operate. Turn the power off and check the thermostat for improper settings or connections.

Interpret one LED flash that blinks on and off to mean your furnace has locked out because it could not ignite after three tries, and must be reset. Interrupt power to your furnace for 20 seconds or lower the thermostat so your furnace does not try to heat, then reset the thermostat to the previous setting. After one hour of lockout, your furnace will automatically reset itself and try to operate as usual.

Decipher two LED flashes to mean the draft blower is not working, or your furnace has a short in the pressure switch circuit. Turn off the furnace power and repair a short or replace the pressure switch.

Read three LED flashes to mean your furnace has an open pressure switch circuit or it has an induced draft blower operating. Check the pressure switch hose of your furnace for blocks or an improper connection. Also, look for blockages in the flue, and tighten any loose wiring.

Translate four LED flashes to mean your furnace has a primary limit circuit open, possibly from loose wiring or blocked filters. Check and clean filters, tighten wiring and check the flue for blockages.

Interpret five LED flashes to mean your furnace senses a flame without a call for heat. This could be from a gas valve closing slowly or a burner flame lingering.

Read seven LED flashes as a warning of a low flame sense microamp signal. This could happen with a coated flame sensor or a lazy flame from poor gas pressure. Turn off the power and adjust the gas pressure according to the information on the rating plate.

See eight LED flashes as meaning an igniter circuit problem due to a bad igniter or an igniter connected improperly. Replace the bad igniter or check the ground wiring, making necessary corrections.

Decipher nine LED flashes to mean the high-stage pressure switch circuit will not close during a high-stage-induced draft blower operation. Your furnace may have a pinched or blocked pressure switch hose, a blocked flue or loose wiring.

Read continuous flashing on the LED to mean your furnace has a reversed polarity of 115 volts. Turn off the power and correct the wiring polarity after reviewing the wiring diagram.

Goodman furnace GMP075-3 The thermostat was in the off position over night and sometime during the night, the induced blower and blower motor came on. The trouble light on board blinks 5 times. I checked...

Need your model # to check the codes but, this coming back on after turning the t-stat off is rare. You may have been in a lockout and the furnace re-started. Some furnaces try to start three times , then lock out. Time out, then re-start. The codes should be on your furnace blower door. Write back with this info and i could help.

Goodman GDS80904BNA LED Blinks 3 Times

had similar problems with same furnace. I think the 3 blinks is high limit event. either way with the power off to the furnace remove the board from the 4 clips holding it on one at a time then turn it over and look at it you will be able to tell if the board is bad because it will appear scortched and the resin will be bubbled up where it went bad. replace board and you will be fine. went through 2 in 2 years all of a sudden they are being made by a different company from the original and the 1st replacement. now all is fine. Take a good picture of the board close up so you can reconnect all the wires properly. Friend of mine got it from a wholesaler for $55.00

Furnace starts properly, then shuts down, led flashes 8 times

The first thing to look at is the flame sense rod.
Shut off power to the furnace, remove, clean sensor with steel wool or sandpaper then reinstall the sensor. Reapply power and it should run properly.

Goodman furnace blinked 1 time

Furnace attempted to start but failed after so manay tries. This may help you.

Sequence of operation, Gas Furnace.

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the ignitor. The ignitor will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the ignitor gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the ignitor does not energize (bad control, bad ignitor), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not lite (dirty pilot), the burner does not lite (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

Most newer furnaces will have a diagnostic center or control built into the control module. You may be able to view it as it is running thru a small viewing port. Some models will require the removal of an access panel prior to finding it. On the reverse of the access panel, there will be a diagnostic chart that will aide you in understanding any error code recorded (usually a blinking light).

This is why we technicians earn the big bucks!

Goodman gmp075-3 led blinks 5 times

I Also have the same and other problems with my furnace model # GDS80703AXBB. First the LED kept blinking 4 times and I too jumped the primary limit, that didn't kelp. After several attemps I moved the wires going to the circut board and everything starting working again. After a week It stopped working again, so I pulled the plug out of the circut board checked all wires for for a bad connection plugged it back in. Now the LED blinks 6 times again I move the wires. Then the LED blinks 3 times. Then the transformer burns out. I have burned out 2 transformers and I have ordered a new circut board.
