purchased 1 year ago. now it gets hot and spits the dirt out a few moments after picking it up. rollers are working and there are no clogs in the air chamber.

Check the throat of the vac itself where air and dirt passes through to the back and into the intake. The heat would indicate you have a loss of air flow though to the chamber.. try dropping a coin backward through from above down to the bottom of the vac. his will help indicate whee a blockage is.
