The weight of the lubrication to be used in HD 1988 is 20w50.
You drain the engine oil from the rubber tube just under the battery tray. There is a plug built into the underside of the tray. ....Have a few rags under the bike ...you can drain oil from this rubber tube

STEPS TO CHANGE THE OIL:
1. Run engine until normal operating temperature is reached.
2. Disconnect hose behind left side plate. Allow oil to drain completely. Once drained replace. 3. Remove and clean the tappet oil screen located under the plug on the cam case near the rear cylinder tappet block. 4. Remove oil filter. 5. Lube rubber seal on new oil filter with clean engine oil and install oil filter. Hand tighten oil filter 1/4-1/2 turn after seal contacts filter mounting surface. 6. With oil plug and filter tightened, install three 3 quarts (FXR) four 4 quarts (FLT) of recommended grade oil. The oil tank should be flushed with kerosene at the first oil change and at least every second oil change thereafter.
