I forgot how to operate the voice mail and how to put an outgoing message.

The AT&T EL51209 does not have an answering system. It will check your voice mail if you have that service from your telephone company. You need to check the voice mail FAQ from the provider to set an outgoing message. Otherwise, you'll need a separate answering machine that is connected to the phone jack and then connects to the EL51209.

Recording your outgoing message, or "greeting" as it is sometimes referred to, is a function that is dependent on the type of voice mail system you have. In any event you will need the password that's associated with that extension as well as knowledge of the voice mail pilot number (the main voice mail number). I can only guess that you are asking how to set up voice mail. Near as I remember most phones will talk you through it. After you put in you message(outgoing) you should hit end button. That usually makes it put in the tone.

If you are using an Active Voice product (typical w/ NEC) you need to change the hours of operation on the voice mail system. "Night Mode" only changes the ringing characteristics of the phone system and where calls ring, not the greetings that play on the voice mail. The voice mail plays a particular greeting (Day/Night/Holiday) based on the time of day specified in the schedule. The system administrator for the voice mail would have to make this change.

first inactive ur voice mail service. then check outbox if any outgoing sms or voice mail r there then delete it.

if its verizon go into ur vmail put in ur password choose option 4 then 3 then 1 then 3 then record ur message.

If so dial the ext to access voicemail.
Dial * 990# or *991#
enter password #
Follow prompts.
