Question about Network Associates Computers & Internet

Open Question

THEN: When attempting to enable e-mail scanning for my computer using CA Security Suite 2007, I get the error message: An error was encountered while trying to secure your system. Try a product update to make sure you have all required files. Updating the files does not change a thing. I've checked and it is working with Microsoft outlook, but not Thunderbird, which is the mail client that I use. NOW: I un-installed, rebooted and re-installed, a couple of times. The firewall would not uninstall. I tried doing this in safe mode as well, a couple of times. Then I tried something apparently unsafe to do. I wiped the CA folder in 'Programs', and the CA folder in the HKEY software folder. Now I can't reinstall, can't use a restore point, and the uninstalled on this page just sits there, while I get the Windows installer popping up constantly. There is also a search box for the CD where the CAFT.msi, or '1' file should be located. I can't reinstall the suite, I get an error message: Warning W9015: Setup has detected that a later version of CA Anti-Spyware, Anti-Spam, Anti-Virus, CA Personal Firewall, is already installed, ..... Error E9010: How can I get myself out of this mess? Thanks!!

SOURCE: Action failed for file avgtdix.sys: starting service....

There is a known issue between AVG 8 and Anniversary Edition of Ad-Aware which gives exactly this error, so if you perhaps just got that ad-aware, uninstall it too before trying to reinstall AVG.

Then run the uninstall/cleanup util for Avast because the Windows Add/Remove isn't good for uninstalling antivirus programs. Then try reinstalling it again. If you downloaded the installation package, then it provides the uninstall option. Disable Ad-Aware's Adwatch first! Run the AVG installer. Choose the uninstall option and follow the wizard. When you get to the part to remove user settings, select it. Restart your computer then... Now reinstall AVG using the setup file you got and update it.
Restart Windows twice before you re-enable anything disabled earlier.

Should this not work and you get the same error, that means the original errornous installation is still not out of your system. Download the AVG remover from here:
http://www.avg.com/download-tools
Remove your AVG and reboot to make sure it is not there any more, and try installing again.

Let me know if the solution worked and if yes please rate me:)

Are you on Vista? If so, try going into CA Anti-Spyware folder, which may be under some other company name, and finding the uninstall icon, right click and "Run as Administrator" if the program still gives the error while uninstalling, I wouldn't know what to do next.
