Question about Microsoft Outlook Express

A Verizon FIOS tech deleted my Outlook Express and my Address Book which has over 600 addresses in it, can it be retrieved?

You may find your data files are still on the disk and only the program files have been removed. You should try and find your data files and make a back up of them before you try and restore outlook express.

Once you get Outlook Express working again you should be able to restore the data files.

There is a great description here about how outlook express stores it's data. As usual Microsoft seem to have gone out of their way to make it complicated where other products just have a file or two.

Read the article and perhaps do a bit of googling on your own and I think you will figure it out.

Address book error



My suggestion use Gmail and import your old email with the aid of the video above. Not all is lost.
Most of the time you can recover the old email and the old address book

I can't open the Address Book of Outlook Express 6 and i can't sent email


First you have to make sure that the letters do have a basis, that is to view the contents of the file "Sent Items (1) .dbx" and "Sent Items (1) .bak". This lead to the many programs, such as, Recovery Toolbox for Outlook Express, http://www.outlookexpress.recoverytoolbox.com/ but it is possible and Total Commander plugins.

You could try using Recuva to undelete the files. Scan your hard drive for address.wab file and recover it.

For that you need to import it in 1 file.
Open outlook express then go to file menu then import ->address book.
Then save it to desktop then you can export in microsoft outlook with that file.

The Address Book provides a convenient place to store contact information for easy retrieval from programs such as Microsoft
loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); To open the Address Book, click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, and then click Address Book.

To open the Address Book in Outlook Express, click Address Book on the Tools menu.
Import Address Book Contacts from Other Windows Address Book Files loadTOCNode(2, 'summary'); You can import address book contacts from other Windows Address Book files (.wab files), as well as from Netscape Communicator, Microsoft Exchange Personal Address Book, or any text file (.csv file).

To import Windows Address Book files:
  1. In Address Book, point to Import on the File menu, and then click Address Book (WAB).
  2. Locate and then click the address book that you want to import, and then click Open.
