Question about Dell Dimension 2300 PC Desktop

Blank screen - won't boot!

I was suring the net on my Dell dimension 2300 when suddenly, the screen went blue then displayed a message about the system having communication problems with the keyboard... insert system disk and press enter. I had no system disk, so I hit enter and the system beeped several times, then shut down. Now, it won't boot. When I turn on the tower, it acts like it will boot up, but in a few moments, the greet power light fades out, however, the CD and DVD drive doors still open and close at the push of a button (so I think it still has power going to it). Also, when I turn the monitor power on, it comes on bright green for about 3 seconds, then goes orange and sounds like it is going into sleep or hibernation mode. The screen is totally blank. I put the diagnostic disk in the tower and it does nothing at all. I checked all the plugs and everything is snugly plugged in. HELP! Thanks... Karen

It sounds like you have either a failing power supply (can't supply enough voltage to run) or a failing motherboard. Open the case and look for swollen or bulging capacitors (caps). Caps should be perfectly flat and not bulging or swollen or leaking. Caps look like little cylinders, like tiny cola cans. DELL along with several other computer makers got a bad batch of semiconductors that would fail after awhile. Let us know what you find out.

Iv had this problem , you'll have to put the correct disc for the comptuer and start over again :) otherwise you mite aswell just throw your comptuer out.

I have a dell Dimension 2300 and the images are very dark. I don't think it is from the monitor.

Try these steps: 1. Check the monitor settings. Access the On Screen Display (OSD) Menu System. Adjust the contrast and brightness using the control buttons in the monitor.
2. Run the monitor self test. Unplug the video cable from the computer (cable from monitor to the back of the computer). Usually it has a blue or white connector. Turn on the monitor alone. It should display the self test pattern (white, red, green & blue). If the images are dark in the self test, it is a problem with the monitor.
2. Rotate the monitor to face a different direction. This will help in eliminating sunlight glare which can cause poor picture quality.
3. Test your computer using another working monitor. If the problem occurs in a known good monitor, then it is a video card or motherboard (if your video card is integrated) problem.

Dell Dimension C521 w/Vista will not boot OS.

There is no way around this you need to get your OS from Dell and reload.

Dell Dimension boot problem

You could try uninstalling the Display Adapter driver from Device Manager while in Safe mode then see if you can reboot normally. The drivers may reinstall automatically and it might blue screen again. If prompted to install drivers when restarting you could cancel and attempt to find better drivers, but it may be a failing video adapter.

Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 750GB Hard Drive
goes for about 180 bucks and it a IDE PATA Drive I do belive since your dimensions 2300 motherboard 3T237 is only IDE and does not have SATA

your motherboard can also handle 1 gig of ram so if you havent maxed out your motherboard yet I would highly suggest it. Ram for it wont cost you much either.

I would add the newer drive as a secoundary drive since I am sure that your operating system is pre loaded.

or you can also add external drives to your system as well for more storage as well and they are starting to come down in price as well. you have options it all depends what ya wanna do with it.

No boot


Things to Check When No boot...
1. Have you connected all the power cable?
2. Do you see any display?(including the power lights glowing)
3. Does the screen show you any blue screen error message?
4. Do you hear any beep noises?
5. Have you tried to install any third party hardware or software?
6. What do you think could have caused the issue?

Problem booting up dell dimension 2300 desktop.

You have no choice either you should reinstall your system, you should provide windows CD/DVD installation and boot your system using this disk.

However; you should backup your important files be cause most likely the all files will be removed during the installation process.
