Question about HP Pavilion dv2000t 14.1" Notebook Laptop PC (Intel Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66 GHz, 1GB RAM, 100GB HDD, D... PC Notebook
It really sucks when you're in that situation because when you ask for help, most people would think that it's a STOLLEN laptop. Most tech and laptop/computer manufacturer will need to confirm if it's really yours' before they can help you... When most of the time, the only solution is to REPLACE the motherboard, which will cost you tons of money...
Some of the older and mostly all the newer laptops store the admin password on a memory chip (IC, Soldered) on your mainboard. That means that if you want to RESET it, you will need to buy that chip if you know which chip and where it's at. Most people think that if you remove the CMOS battery for a while and try it back on like you normally would do on desktops, it should fix it. But in this case, it's a laptop. It will work only on some of the older laptops. But you can try that.
But, this is what I do on most of the newer laptops and it worked. You can try this. Only if you are technical and handy, this should help you.
First, make sure that the laptop's battery is out, you will be using the AC Adapter as the power source. Now STRIP your laptop apart and get the CMOS battery out or disconnected from the mainboard. Put the laptop back together where it will work without the CMOS battery intact... Now turn on the laptop wait and let it finish booting. Once it's done booting or stuck at the login screen, manually turn off the laptop... Now undo what you done and put the CMOS battery back in the laptop and boot it up. All settings, including passwords etc should be RESET back to default settings...
