Question about GE (PSS26MSRSS) Side by Side Refrigerator

Ice melts, then refreezes. Rubber Is HOT

The ice maker works, but then the ice melts and refreezes into a solid block. The divider wall between the freezer and the refrig is hot, not just warm. It is HOT.

Pull the refrig out , and remove the back panel . Is the fan that cools the compressor working ? Is the coil roll clean ? If the fan is not working , then the problem is probably the main control board . Behind the 8"X10" panel , above the compressor area . Remove the cover , and look for a burnt resistor , just to be safe . If this fan does not work , then the coils and the refrigerant line running between the doors , will get very hot .

Hi Jan, the problem is a bad ice maker water valve. Pull the refrigerator out and look for the plastic water line that's going to the tube that's freezing. Follow that tube to the faulty water valve. The problem is, its leaking water slowly to the ice maker and it freezes up . Easy fix : Good luck

Where is the drain plug on the inside of my m.tag refrig. mod.MFI2569VEW

If the water is showing on the freezer side, more than likely you have a clogged drain. This occurs when the machine goes into defrost and the melted ice somehow is prevented from draining and therefor refreezing and blocking the drain for the next defrost cycle. The best way to resolve this is to unplug the machine for atleast 24-48 hours to let all ice melt. If thats not an option that you want to use the actual repair method would be to 1) unplug the machine 2) empty everything out of the freezer so you'll have room to work 3) take all the shelving and baskets out 4) locate the screws on the rear wall inside the freezer and remove them 5) take the back panel off exposing the evaporator coils ( the aluminum ) 6) directly below the coils is a trough of sorts and the drain is usually in the middle and runs out the bottom, remove the ice by carefully chipping it out or by using a hair dryer or hot water. 7) once all the ice is gone, the drain is visible and water can flow smnoothly down the drain dry the area and reassemble

Also note on the maytags these days they put a rubber piece called a duck bill on the bottom half of the drain which will also cause this over time. To access this piece you'll have to pull the machine from the wall and remove the lower panel and find the plastic drain and remove the duck bill

Water is dripping into the bottom of my fridge. I have cleaned and vacumned the coils. How do I access the drain to see if it is frozen?

Remove the ice maker and back panel in freezer.1/4 inch nut driver to remove screws. there are 3 screws for the ice maker 2 on the back wall and 2 on the bottom panel. Use a hair dryer to melt ice block. All water will flow down into drip pan under fridge. May overflow use a turkey baster to remove water from pan. Pour hot water onto drain until the water flows freely into the pan.

Ice is being made in the bottom of my frezer

Remove the food and the ice maker from the freezer ( if equiped ) . Remove the rear freezer panel . Using a hair dryer , start in the middle , below the coils , defrosting , until you see the drain hole . Use hot water to help defrost the hole . Once water starts going thru the hole , use a small hose inserted into the hole , and blow thru , to remove any unseen debris in the drain line . Use an ALUMINUM or COPPER solid wire , 14-16 guage , with the insulation completely off , and insert one end into the drain hole as far as possible without any force . Wrap the other end about 1 1/2 to 2 turns , around the black rod (defrost heater) , above the hole . When refrig goes into defrost , the heat will transfer from the heater , to the wire , keeping the hole from freezing up again .
