How to setup WEP on an SMCD3GN Wireless Cable Modem Gateway
1. Log into the router. To do this you will need to open your web browser and enter http://192.168.0.1
2. You will need to log in to the router. The Default Username and Password: User Login Username: cusadmin. Password: password
3. Next click on [WIRELESS] link on the Side Navigation bar.
4. Select [WEP] from the [SecurityMode] drop-down menu.
You can choose between standard 64-bit or 12b-bit encryption keys. Below are the configuration options for 64-bit WEP. A passphrase or a manual key can be used
NOTE: To enter a manual WEP key you will need to enter hexadecimal values (A-F and 0-9). Example: 64-bit hexadecimal keys are exactly 10 characters in length. (123654ACDE is a valid strong of 10 characters for 64-bit encryption).
To automatically generate a 64-bit WEP key, enter in a Passphrase (keyword- ex. homegateway). And click the [Generate Keys] option. Once you do this, the Gateway will dynamically generate 4 keys. Simply configure the Default Key to the one key that you will be using across your network.
5. Select the Open System, Shared Key or Automatic from the [Authentication] drop-down menu. Note in most cases you want it set to Automatic.
For more security, you can use 128-bit WEP encryption. To use this mode, select the [128 bit (26 hex digits)] from theWEP Key Length drop-down menu option and the configuration section will be displayed. 128-bit encryption requires a longer key than 64-bit encryption. Keys are defined by entering in a strong in HEX (hexadecimal- using characters 0-9, A-F) or ASCII (American Standard Code for Information Interchange – alphanumeric characters) format. ASCII format is provided so you can enter a string that is easier to remember. The ASCII string is converted to HEX for use over the network. You can manually enter in the 26-digit hexadecimal key.
Example: 128-bit hexadecimal keys are exactly 26 characters in length. ( 234FEDCBA12340013333389319 is a valid string of 26 characters for 128-bit encryption).
NOTE: If you are having a difficult time getting the wireless connection up after enabling WEP- Please confirm that you have configured the SAME WEP key on both the Gateway and Client card.

WPA Key is entered as a pass phrase between 8 to 63 alphanumeric characters in the ASCII format at both ends of the wireless connection. Although PSK accepts a minimum of eight characters, for proper security, it is a good idea to use ample length and should not use a commonly known phrase. This phrase is used to generate session keys that are unique for each wireless client.
To resolved the issue you have an option to change the WirelessSettings on your router to WEP instead of WPA since WEP is also a secured netwrok. however you need to keep in mind that if you change the encryption you need to configure all othere device connected to the router via WPA and change the settings to WEP.

You can enable WEP on your router. In the address bar of your browser, type192.168.0.1to access the setup page of the Dlink router. By default the username isadmin and leave the password blank. On the Setup page, go to Wireless. Security Mode should be WEP then click Next. You can change the WEP KEY 1. Make sure you remember this because you will need to enter this on your wireless computer. Save the settings. I hope this helps!
Ok no problem you can change the name and still download it. When you find the driver and are ready to download click "Save As" as opposed to Save or Open. A window will open and the second to last line on the bottom you can type in the name you want to save it as. MyDriverForSound for example. Then once the file is finished downloading just click "Open". That will open the file and install the driver, the computer does not care what the name is, the last three letters which are automatically assigned tells your computer it is a driver. Is the ribbon tight or sticking, If ribbon can't turn, it delays entire carriage, you will notice that if you move carriage up and down by hand ribbon turns, I have seen sticky ribbon s cause problems as well as gearing that drives ribbon with wornout gears
