Question about Toshiba Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a Satellite M30X/M35X laptop. I started to have problems with the visibility on the monitor screen. It is now completely dark screen. It was recommended that I hold it up to the light to see if I could see the desktop icons, etc. I have completed that task and can see with the light, coming from the side, the icons and the arrow. What could be wrong with the laptop? What should I try to resolve this?

The LCD screen's BACKLIGHT is dead... You might be better off getting a replacement lcd screen... Unless you can find the actual backlight for it, which normally no one sells it, and if they do, it might be damaged. So I would recommand getting the LCD replaced.

Coffe spill now screen on lap top not working

No magic fix here Philip. The only thing to do is immediately remove ALL power, AC adapter (Charger) and Battery, and open the laptop up, remove the CMOS Battery, (RTC Battery), and dry it out THOROUGHLY.

After you are SURE all components inside the laptop are dry, reassemble.
Install the Battery, then the AC adapter.

Plug into power. WAIT 1 minute, turn the laptop on.

Go down to the heading that starts with - Satellite A10. (A10 in blue)
Drop down to the fourth line (L655), and scroll across to - M30X

Click on the file name M30X.
(The Toshiba Satellite M35X-S161 Notebook PC, is part of the Toshiba Satellite M30X series of Notebook PC's )

After you click on the file name (M30X), it may take up to 30 seconds before the first page comes up.

A) Buy and wear an ESD wrist strap. Average cost is around $3 to $6.
Connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
(Electro Static Discharge)

Your body carries Static electricity. Static WILL fry out (Short Circuit), the delicate hardware components inside a computer.

IF, the computer is still good you need to give it a fighting chance.

B) Use a multi-compartment container for the various screws you will remove.
Label each compartment for the area the screw/s come out of.

There are MANY screws that look VERY similar to other screws.
DO NOT mix them up.

C) Make a personal record as you disassemble.
Make notes, and drawings. (Legible)
Use a digital camera, or video camera if available. Use good lighting.

It's nice to have a personal record to refer back to, in case you are interrupted.

The backlight just quit working on my Toshiba Laptop

The backlight problem can be caused by a faulty inverter or a faulty/worn out CCFL lamp.
These parts are available from the Internet. I found LCD Parts a good company to deal with. Check them out for parts, service and DIY info.

Satellite (A75S206) runs well from outlet but never from battery. Was told that mobo can't accept dc. Need new mobo. True?

hello loyd516,

Have you tried a new battery? They are much much cheaper, and a whole lot easier to replace than a motherboard.

Here are replacement batteries that I found searching with Google.
http://www.google.com/products?q=Satellite+A75-S206+battery&hl=en

According to Toshiba, there has been a battery recall for your specific model.
If that is the case I would definitely contact Toshiba support about it. Maybe you will get a free battery out of the deal. Who knows.
Here is the link and the list(your model is highlighted)

Looking for wireless on switch on laptop

Right Side, underneath your volume control. If it is switched on and still cant access the internet wireless give this a try.

Use Control Panel's Add or Remove Programs utility to uninstall the Toshiba Hotkey Utility, and then reinstall it.
This program is called E-Key Utility on the Toshiba Satellite M30X/M35X Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD. It's called Toshiba E-Key Utility for Windows XP on the Toshiba Support website.

Unistalling the Toshiba Hotkey Utility:
  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Control Panel.

  3. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.

  4. Select TOSHIBA Hotkey Utility.

  5. Click Change/Remove.

  6. Click OK to confirm that you wish to completely remove the selected application and its features. The InstallShield Wizard will begin the removal process.

  7. Click Finish to exit the InstallShield Wizard.
Re-installing the Toshiba Hotkey Utility using the Toshiba Satellite M30X/M35X Series Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD that shipped with the computer:
  1. Insert the Toshiba Satellite M30X/M35X Series Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD into the CD/DVD drive and close the tray. The setup program on the DVD should start automatically.

  2. When the Toshiba Recovery and Applications CD window appears, verify that "Install applications and drivers" is the selected install type, and click Next.

  3. Select E-key Utility from the list, and click Install.

  4. When the WinZip Self-Extractor window appears, click OK.

  5. Click Unzip.

  6. Click OK to acknowledge that the files were successfully unzipped.

  7. When the InstallShield window appears, click Next and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

  8. When the installation is complete, click Exit and then OK to close the Toshiba Recovery and Applications CD window.

  9. Remove the Toshiba Satellite M30X/M35X Series Recovery and Applications/Drivers DVD from the optical drive and close the tray.
Reinstalling the Toshiba Hotkey Utility using the file downloaded from the Toshiba Support website:
  1. Download the Toshiba E-key Utility for Windows XP from the Toshiba Support website, and save it to your computer. See also the bulletin Obtaining downloads and support docs from the Toshiba Support website.

  2. Navigate to where you saved the file and double-click it.

  3. Click Run.

  4. When the WinZip Self-Extractor window appears, click OK.

  5. Click Unzip.

  6. Click OK to acknowledge that the files were successfully unzipped.

  7. When the InstallShield window appears, click Next and follow the prompts to complete the installation.

Toshiba Satellite M30X/m35x

Try an external monitor - if that works then your screen or cable is faulty. If not try replacing the ram - if you are using two sticks of ram try booting with each stick individually to see if one of them is faulty. If it does not show a display with known good ram of the correct type then it may be the processor that is faulty.
