This is a convergence output IC problem. convergence board (main Board) would have to be removed - remove and replace 2 STK IC's and check the surrounding resistors. Shops usually charge between $200-$300

I have this same problem with the PT51HX41E but in the convergence menu the green and red are allowed to move. but the blue on the right side of the screen is not allowed to move and it looks like its...

My first guess would be a bad convergence amplifier - this is common, although usually all three of the amplifiers in the integrated circuit die at the same time, which throws off at least two colors and creates a "bow-tie" effect. I surmise you have half of a bow-tie in blue only.

If you could look at the blue output waveforms with an oscilloscope, you would see right away if this is the problem (flat-line instead of sawtooth wave). It is possible that both of the blue convergence amplifiers are working, but one output is not getting to the blue deflection yoke.

Don't mess with the convergence anymore until you get this taken care of. Changing the convergence now will only make it harder to get it back to where it should be once the circuit is fixed.

Have you checked the bias resistors for Exact Value. They normally change value when the stk's take a dive.

I have a Panasonic PT-53WX54J that will not Converge

you need to replace or have professional convergence amplifiiers. If know how to desolder and solder you could repair yourself or in home professional tv repairperson will cost you $275-$400. The convergence adjustments via remote are half the battle the IC's loose clarity over time.

Panasonic PT-51HX41E Convergence Problem

Hello pzemenides,

I posted this in an eariler solution and there are numerous referencesto this type of problem on fixya.com, however it fits in this case, sohere it is:

This denotes a convergence problem. Believe it ornot it would be cheaper for you to replace the two convergenceamplifiers and the biasing resistors. You would not actually bereplacing the convergence board since these devices are usually locatedon the deflection board in most cases. However in answer to yourquestion, the boards are easily removed, depending on your level ofpatience (lots of cables to move around), I would also advise you toeither mark down all of the connection you will remove, or take picturesof the board and its connectors. If you choose to just replace theAmplifiers and the biasing resistors there is a lot of information onthis site on how to do so: This will get you started:

1) Unplug the TV and then get a schematic of the TV I use http://www.servicemanuals.net or http://www.manualsparadise.com
2) On the schematic locate the STK392-xxx series IC packs (or whatever Convergence ICs your set is using) (usually attached to a large heat sink)
3) determine if the STK392s are 110, 120 or 150.
4) if the STK392-xxx's are 110s replace with 110s (forget that upgrade stuff it is a hit or miss game that I don't believe you want to get into), if they are 120s replace with 120s and so on.
5)Nowto replace the STKs: remove the module from the TV and unsolder theoldSTKs along with the bias resistors, and replace them with the newones(be sure to apply heat sink paste to the STKs when attaching them to the heatsink)
6) make sure there are no short circuits form your soldering job.
7) Reinstall the module and then turn on the TV.
8) do manual adjustment and the auto-convergence test and then things should be back to normal.

I hope this helps

Ghosting in Red, Green and blue

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.png http://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull

Think this is worth fixing?

trust ME when i say setting convergence after doing repair takes alot of time to do /you can damage set if you do not have service codes and values/ you also must have the hand unit that comes with set in order to even get into convergence circuit, call your repair shops ask if they have a good blue tube for set and how much would it cost to repair?ARE you sure blue tube has been removed from set.?

Convergence

Did you remove 1 leg of each resistor out of circuit when you checked the resistors? sounds like thier is still one resistor open or maybe one of the new IC pins need abit more solder.

The convergence amps have most likely failed. That unit takes two STK392-110 (Sanyo) amps. For more reliability I'd have them changed using an STK392-150. They have a greater amperage and higher heat tolerance.
It's clearly a job that you want a qualified shop to do.. Call around and get some off-the-cuff estimates on what they charge to change out the convergence amps and tell them that you would prefer they use the 150's instead of the 110's.. They'll probably wonder how qualified you are. :)

PT 47 convergence IC's? box? both?

Always suspect the IC's first, digital convergence prblems are actually pretty rare IC's go everyday. I'd check partsore .com Generics usually work fine, they are probably STK392-110's but check to make sure.
