Question about Dell OptiPlex GX260 Intel Desktop PC - Intel Pentium 4 2GHz, 256MB DDR, 40GB HDD, CD-ROM, Windows XP

Monitor light goes to orange & stays there.Stuck in power save.

DELL monitor E196FP-f purchased in late 2005. Green light on monitor immediately goes to orange. Even hitting power save button useless because message suggesting hit any key is futile, hit any of the keys and nothing happens. Have already plugged and unplugged cables and juice several times. DELL test bars come up, but then nothing. Opened PC brain and dusted video card and reinserted video card, and after booting up again. Still no luck. Now desperate. julio57

Hi, Robin.

Usually a green to orange light means that the monitor is not getting activity from the PC.

Wiggle the monitor's cable (VGA cable) to see if any difference. The VGA cable could be faulty.

To narrow down whether the problem for certain is the monitor or the computer, connect another monitor to the computer. If it works, your Dell monitor is faulty and needs to be replaced. If it doesn't work, the computer is problematic.

Some suggestions if the computer is problematic:

1. VGA video card needs replacement.
2. Memory could be faulty or need reseating (remove and reinsert). Try one memory module at a time to test.

Hope this helps.

Turn monitor on, screen works for about two seconds then goes black, power light stays green

These monitors have a power supply that is under rated for the unit.
The outcome is the 4 power transistors which control and regulated the output, go soft after use.
Other problems the monitor has are the filter capacitors in the power supply.
Generally, the parts to fix the unit run about $20.00 but the expertise to remove and re-install the faulty parts is much more.

Monitor stopped working...checked all connections...light won't stay on green. bought a new monitor to replace it and that monitor says "no signal". is this a problem with the dell computer and not the...

Your monitor is going into power saving mode. When it receives no video signal from the computer, it will stay powered for a few seconds before giving up and presuming the PC is off hence why it stays green for a while, then goes orange.

The problem is with your PC not the monitor(s)

Cannot turn off monitor

It is problem with power settings. Start/Control Panel/Power Options -- and then pick a Power Scheme from the drop down list and make whatever modifications you want to the settings that power down your monitor

POWERED ON MONITOR, FLASHES ON, THEN GOES BLACK, MAKES NOISE

This is general LCD monitor advice. I don't know your specific model. Your problem, however, is very common on many different monitors.

In 90% of cases, the problem is one or more failed electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board. They are a simple matter to replace, but require desoldering the old ones and soldering in new ones, as well as general electrical/electronic safety practices.

If what I've just said already makes sense to you, then you're probably qualified - go ahead and replace them. If I'm talking greek, then go find an electronics nerd - some goofy looking guy wielding a soldering gun should do.

Dell Monitor won't stay on

When it goes black, does the power buton stay green or is it orange? If it's orange, the power supply/inverter is your main culprit. If the power button stays green, it sounds like the backlight for the display is bad. Either way, unless you have parts for the same monitor laying around to swap out, you're due for a new monitor. The good news- with the economy in the tank, you can search online and find some reputable vendors selling nicely sized screens for less than $100! Heck, I've even seen a 22" for $129 (once but it was there).

Dell E196FP lcd screen broke

Hi,
Generally the LCD screens are covered under 3 yr warranty. If you have purchased it as a seprate product from Dell. Otherwise it would have same warrnaty as your computer system.
You would end up sepnding more money in repairing the LCD , getting a new one would be a better proposition

Thanks
mandeep
