Question about Garden

How to re assemble recoil spring on macallister pro 50 lawn mower. I have inherited this machine which has only been used a few times and the previous owner has given up on it. The whole recoil housing has been taken apart and there are no instructions with it. I have tried to find a schematic for the said beastie but to no avail so far. Any ideas how I can coax the spring back into its casing with the flywheel in place and the pull cord in the right direction??? I have broken two nails so far on this and am getting cross.

Hello there it is hard to do but with patients you can put a loop of tape or a cable tie around the start of the coil and everytime you rewing the coil you can put it under the loop to keep it in place hope this helps

I need to replace the pulley and recoil spring assy on my victa statesman mower, how do i do it?

Most recoil assemblies are secured with three machine screws that once removed, allow the assy to be lifted off. The new assy simply reattaches in the same location.

How do I replace a recoil assembly on lawn mower

Its typically only two or four screws to replace the entire assembly. But I would try to replace only the cord or spring first

Pull string won;t recoil

The recoil spring has broken. These are available at any lawn mower parts supply store. The process of changing the spring is tedious but can be done by anyone with average mechanical ability. If you removed the recoil assy (and air shroud if it is riveted on) and took the assembly to a Lawn Mower Repair shop usually they will change out the spring while you wait. If you can't get the recoil assy off take the mower with you to the repair shop. Again most shops will fix it while you if wait but if they are very busy usually they are serviced within 24 hours.

If you do attempt this yourself check in the tips section of FixYa on how to change the recoil stater rope after replacement of the spring.

I highly recommend you replace the pull rope at the time of the recoil spring replacement.

One final note... there is a possibility that the pull rope spool has been damaged where the spring attaches.

Thanks for using FixYa,

Kelly

The pull cord on my poulan pro weedeater will not

You have a broken recoil spring. Dis-assemble (pull-off) the recoil housing and check for proper dog alingnment, broken spring, or something jammed between recoil sprocket and engine block.
