Either the monitor or your video card may have been wounded or Windows has simply trashed the driver - it likes to do that, otherwise it would just get too boring, right?
You should try another monitor to see if Win likes it better. If you get a usable display, your monitor is likely at fault and not responding to the sync signals supplied by the video section. If you get the same error code on another monitor, then your video section is ailing and if it is an on board chipset, you may have to replace that failed section with a discrete card and disable the on board section through the BIOS setup.
