See if you can move the parts on the carburater that are supposed to be controlled by the wire. Most likely they can turn, but it is the wire that is not working. The cable is 2 parts; an inner wire and and outer sleeve. Most likely there is rust on the inside. Sometimes you can soak the wire with a peneterant and work it loose. Best bet would be a new cable.

Make sure your engines governor linkage is moving freely. It is the linkage that the throttle goes to on the engine and then a lever from that linkage goes back to the carb. The throttle cable works through the governor to adjust to changing loads. Your linkage connections may be crossed limiting throttle opening as well. Look online for a throttle linkage photo and compare. Be careful and good luck!

I own the 10685, mowed 6 times this year and on the 7th out of nowhere it developed a problem. Primed as usual, starts, runs about 30 seconds, quits. If I catch it in time I can hit the primer again and it...

Hi,
Just a suggestion O.K?
Carefully check the small fuel lines. To and from the bulb. Make sure the bulb fills with gas.( at least two thirds full. ) There is a small fuel filter on the end of a small fuel line in the tank. A small hook of stiff wire will dig that out. Good luck !!!!

Starts runs strong and sputters and dies after it gets hot

Its very common that the carb will get clogged up with debris. If it is a newer unit the carb will be made of plastic. You have to use special cleaners or it will be destroyed. Carb cleaner will melt rubber and plastic.
Sea-foam is one product that I have had good luck with.
You May end up buying a new carb if you continue to have problems.

Saw starts then dies. Changed fuel ine soaked carb

Check the fuel filter, air cleaner and muffler for plugging. Was the carburetor disassembled when soaked and did you use compressed air to blow out all passages? If the carburetor jet screws have been moved, preset them as follows: Turn both H and L screws CW to stops (lightly), then back out CCW each screw 1-1/2 turns. Start the engine and allow to warm up. Pull the throttle full on and adjust H CW until the engine speeds up somewhat but 4-stroking. Proper adjustment is when the engine 4-strokes, but immediately 2-strokes when cutting. Allow to idle and adjust L CW until the engine runs fairly well, but still allows the engine to 'follow the throttle'. Adjust idle speed screw so that chain stops turning, but the engine continues to run. Hope this helps!

Engine starts dies down immediately.fuel is ok spark plug ok

Most likely the carburetor is not ok. An engine does not just DIE. If you press the prime bulb, does fuel squirt in carb. If it starts the runs for about 3-5 seconds then dies, there is most likely a float or needle shut off problem. Or it could be as simple as a clogged carburetor. It only takes one tiny peice to clog one. Take the carb off and make sure all jets( small holes in carb) are clean. Mike. Rate 100% please.
