Question about Panasonic PT-45LC12 45" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Open Question

Is the lamp on a PT 45LC12 the basic controlling factor for brightness? Is there another control that will boost brightness?

My real problem was that I lacked information on the TV because we misplaced the owner manual. I have since been on line and downloaded a copy of the manual from Panasonic.

The picture was very dark when viewing most TV movies...almost as though the film was shot in the dark. According to the manual, I adjusted the picture and switched between cinematic mode and normal. In either mode the picture could not be improved much and the picture was darker in cinematic mode.

Unfortunately, adjusting the picture brightness and changing the contrast didn't help much. The picture washed out, though it was somewhat better for viewing.

I suspect the projection lamp is reducing its light output with age. If you have some other thoughts about this issue, I would much appreciate the input.

Frankly, I'm considering replacing the unit with a plasma or LCD TV that requires no lamp replacements.

SOURCE: Panasonic Rear Projection TV -dark picture

Javabean,
First off I think you meant Panasonic PT-51G44A which is an AP815 chassis. That unit has an all to common failure of the capacitor at C581 on the D board which is a 33uf/160v cap. Replace it and I think that will solve the problem..

SOURCE: PT-45LC12 Problem after startup

When the lamp flashes 4 times this is what the error code means IC 2301 pin 11 has detected an LCD error which is caused by an error in the LCD power CBA. which means the lamp voltage has become more than 130 volts or less than 30 volts. Or the lamp current is more than 5 amps, or the lamp is cracked. Its one of thos 3 reasons that will make the lamp indicator blink 4 times. Hope this helps. My PT-45LC12 has picture and fan problems

More like lamp failure. Could be other things of course but start with the lamp cause it will need it anyway if has been a couple years.
Projection TV makers charge an arm and a leg for their replacement lamps. They make it easy to do but as a result the custom lamp assy is expensive. The trick is to just buy the bulb for your model TV from any number of us aftermarket sources at a fraction of the lamp price and install it in the old lamp yourself. really easy. Some models are real bulb hogs though. Look them up on the net (include the word complaint or repair) before you buy, or you might be sorry. Many class action lawsuits out there - even against some of the name brand makers.
Hope ya fix it!

PT-45LC12 wont power up

You have a bad lamp. The "clicking" sound you hear is the ballast (lamp power supply) attempting to start the lamp. The warning on Panasonics that comes up on screen does so when the life expectancy of the lamp is approaching. Otherwise your "clicking" sound and the red light on front are saying bad lamp. When you replace the lamp remeber to follow the instruction that Panasinc provides with the new lamp on restetting the lamp timer. This is usually done with the volume down on the TV and the PIP button on the remote.
