Drain pump i bought a new frigidaire dishwasher and setting it up... i removed the drain hose from the drain pump and noticed the pump outlet has a thin rubber diaphram...should i remove it....set up instructions say nothing about it...ty....tim

Follow the below diagnosis:

1. Drain Hose

It is quite common for a dishwasher to not drain because either the drain hose or the air gap (if the unit has one) is clogged up. Drain hose clogs commonly occur where the hose is attached to the main household drain line, or where the hose connects with the garbage disposer. Try removing the drain hose to unclog any debris. Don't forget to reattach the hose before you start your dishwasher again.

Checking a drain hose

Note:
Disconnect the power source to your dishwasher before you conduct this or any other check. Either unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel.

Before you can check your dishwasher's drain hose for a blockage, you have to gain access to the hose. First remove the lower kickplate panel located below the door. This panel can be removed by removing a couple of screws that are located either above or below the panel. On some models, the dishwasher door has to be open to access and remove the screws, but then closed in order to remove the panel.

With the panel removed, locate the drain hose. It is connected to the pump located below the lower spray arm. The drain hose runs from the pump to the sink drain, or to the air gap on top of the sink. There is a second hose leading from the pump that is a recirculation hose. When you are checking the drain hose for a blockage, you should check the recirculation hose as well.

Place a shallow pan below the hose to catch any spills. Disconnect the drain hose form the pump by pinching the wire clamp with pliers and then sliding the clamp up the hose. Remove the hose from the pump assembly and wiggle the hose in various locations. This may help to loosen the blocked debris.

Try running water through the hose to loosen and unblock the debris. A garden hose at full pressure is efficient to use for this task. Now disconnect the recirculation hose and check it for blockage in the same manner.

Once you have successfully removed any and all blockages from either or both hoses, reconnect each hose to the dishwasher. Replace the clamps, and replace the lower panel. Reconnect the dishwasher's power supply and run the dishwasher to make sure it is running proplerly.

Replacing a drain hose

Replace the clamps, and replace the lower panel. Reconnect the dishwasher's power supply and run the dishwasher to make sure it is functioning proplerly.


2. Pump Assembly

The pump assembly is comprised of a pump, wash impeller, and drain impeller. The pump ejects the water from the unit, the wash impeller pushes water through the spray arm, and the drain impeller directs the water towards the drain port. Examine your dishwasher's pump assembly. Clean out any debris that may be blocking it. Replace the pump assembly if any of its parts appear to be worn or defective.


3. Belt

It isn't very common, but sometimes a dishwasher's pump assembly is driven by a belt. If that belt becomes worn and defective, then it cannot properly run the pump that drains your dishwasher's tub. If your dishwasher uses a drive belt, examine it now. If it shows signs of wear, replace it.

Examining a dishwasher belt

Note:
Disconnect the power source to your dishwasher before you conduct this or any other part examination. Either unplug the unit from the wall outlet, remove the appropriate fuse from the fuse box, or flip the appropriate breaker in the circuit breaker panel.

Locate and gain access to your dishwasher's belt. It will be located behind the lower kickplate panel. The belt will be made of rubber and will be about twenty-five inches long. Some are clear in color, while others are black. The belt will be looped around a pulley at the base of the pump assembly and around a pulley at the base of the motor. The motor will likely be towards the right, with the pump assembly located closer to the middle.

You do not have to move the dishwasher away from the wall in order to access and/or replace its belt. You only need to remove the lower kickplate/access panel. There will be a few screws holding the lower access panel in place. Remove these screws to remove the panel. You may need to first open the door to remove the screws, but then close the door to remove the panel.

With the lower panel removed, the belt is fully exposed. Closely examine your dishwasher's belt. You are looking for signs of wear such as little cracks in the rubber and places where the belt may be stretched. If you find signs that your belt is worn, replace it.



Replacing a dishwasher belt

Depending on how much your worn belt is stretched, removing it might not prove to be too difficult. Replacing it, on the other hand, may require some tight maneuvering. You might want to try this tip:

1. Place one end of the above the pump pulley, around the pump housing.
2. Place the other end of the belt around the motor pulley.
3. Carefully roll the belt down from the pump housing to the pump's pulley.

It is so common that the drain leaks in many ways and is the most problematic fault in a dish washing machine. In all occasions it is important that your observation is most important and so is vital to the identification /rectification and solution. If you have noticed that water has leaked then as the drain hose pump/valve and fittings are located on the underside of the machine it is important that you look for possible leaks here. In some cases the drain hose would be clogged at the drain end to outlet of the house and so there will be back flushing resulting in overflow to the outside. Also the drain pump/valve can be clogged or the drain hose clamps can be loose on the grip which can all cause the leak to occurs. Removing and Cleaning the drain pump/valve, tightening of the hose is also very important. Also water can leak if there is gaps on the front door gaskets and must be checked but this will happen only during the cycle and not on the drain cycle end.

Can you hear the pump trying to drain it? If you can then you have a blockage. Try blowing hard down the outlet hose, what happens? Have you checked all filters?

Dishwasher not draining issue usually occurs due to kinked drain pipe, clogged drain filter or drain pump. Check the drain hose for any visible clogging, remove if present. If no visible lint is present then remove then turn off the dishwasher and remove the drain hose and check for any visible clogging. If still not visible then the drain filter or drain pump is clogged and you'll need to clean the drain filter and drain pump. Also, check for any food pieces stuck near the pump impeller.

the model number is or should be located on the right side of the.cabinet where the door opens.any how the problem could be a clog in the drain hose. you can remove the hose from the side of the garbage disposal.use a shop vac and try and drain the water that way if it does not drain then you could have a grease clog if there is grease clogging it use a blow dryer to heat the hose up and this should remove
the clog.if the water does come aut the you may have a bad drain pump and or a control board.

sounds like the outlet pump is blocked for this you need to power off the appliance and unplug either remove one side of the dishwasher or tilt back and see if you can get under where the outlet pipe comes from you will see a white pump there should be a metal screwclip holding the outlet hose onto the pump remove this then look inside the hole to check for the blockage normaly rice or fat if you can remove it with a coathanger then all is good if not your going to have to remove the pump and take the side off 3 screws be carefull of the rubber seal then give it a good clean also check the feeder pipe to the pump for any blockage. Also after this remove the filter inside the dishwasher and check there is nothing blocking the small hole to the outlet pump.

If water remains in the drum the unit will not go into the final spin.There may be a couple of reasons for your problem.
1.) A coin or other foreign object is blocking the drain hose. Check the drain hose for foreign objects impeding the exit of the water.
2.) The Drain hose is not raised above the machine outlet to create a siphon effect. See your manual for proper hose positioning.
3.) The pump is a third possibility which you should hear the impeller spinning during the drain cycle. There is a coin catch after the diaphragm of the pump that looks like a rubber boot that should be inspected for objects if you remove the pump. I believe the pump is about $60.00 and is accessible after removing the front panel under the door.

I had the same problem! First disconnect mains power, then switch off the mains water to the water input hose, and disconnect the hose. Disconnect the waste outlet hose from your drainage. ( this will release some water from the hose ends, so a washing up bowl would be handy ) You will need to tip the dishwasher on to it's back, be carefull not to damage the waste outlet hose, and watch out from more water spillage. Next remove the two screws on the base metal cover, and spring out the cover from the two side clips, the cover can then be removed, you should have a screw holding an earth lead remove screw and lead from cover.
Inside the bottom of the dishwasher you will see a small electric pump fitted to the side of the dishwashers drain, it has two wires with spade connector on them, disconnect these from the pump noting colour of the wires for reassembling. The pump has the same diameter hose as the outlet hose. Next carefully remove the rubber elbow pipe from the pump and hose end this will need to be washed with clean water. Then to remove the pump, press and hold down the locking tab, where the pump is fitted to the drain, and twist the pump anti-clockwise. The pump will then release from the drain. Inspect the pump impellers for damage, and that the pump has free movement, also check condition of the rubber O-ring. Inspect inside of drain for broken bits of china and glass, remove and clean, also check the outlet hose for any blockages.
( run some water though the hose backwards from the water tap and collect it in a bowl from the pump end of the hose ) Reassembly is the reverse of the above, check electrics inside have not got wet, if ok switch on. The check water light should now be off.
