It is possible that you have a stale cookie on your system. Logging in will put a cookie on the system, so try cleaning your cookies or using a different browser. There have also been some recent upgrades to the PayPal home page and some JSP or CSS file didn't load and is causing the login to hang.

What is a computer browser?

A Browser is what you view internet pages with that's what you used to get here :)
Internet Explorer, Netscape and Firefox are all web browsers they allow you to "browse" the internet.
They are easy to find on the internet via search engines like Google.com. Internet Explorer comes bundled with all Windows versions.

I am using the Netscape Internet Browser and find it is not compatable with PayPal so I want to switch to Windows Internet Browser which I have on my computer WIN98SE but can't find any way to make this...

Open Internet Explorer (depending on what version you are using this may be a little different - but for my version these instructions work)
Click Tools, then Internet Options, then the Programs Tab - there should be an option listed there to make Internet Explorer the default browser.

How do I clear cache using Netscape? Question : Answer : help_a.gif Cache files, or Temporary Internet Files in Microsoft Windows 95 or higher, are copies of files sent to your web browser and stored on your computer so that when you access a web site (such as PayPal) at a later date, it will load much faster. However, sometimes cache and temporary Internet files can cause problems in viewing your current information on the PayPal web site.

To set the size of the memory cache or clear it in Windows or Unix, follow these steps:

  1. From the Edit menu, click Preferences.
  2. Open the Advanced category on the left hand side of the screen and click on Cache. You should see an option to clear your disk and memory cache. It is recommended you clear both caches.
  3. Click Clear Memory Cache.

You may also need to locate the folder on your hard drive named Cookies or Magic Cookies and delete all the cookies that are stored there.
How do I clear the cache using AOL with a Mac? Question : Answer : help_a.gif Cache files, or Temporary Internet Files in Microsoft Windows 95 of higher, are files sent to your web browser and stored on your computer so that when you access a web site (such as PayPal) at a later date, it will load much faster. However, sometimes cache and temporary Internet files can cause problems in viewing your current information on the PayPal web site.

If you experience difficulty viewing a web page, your computer's cache file may be corrupted. Additionally, if you do not manually (or automatically) set your cache files to be deleted periodically, you may experience delays in loading and closing out of certain web pages.

To improve your computer's performance accessing the web, and specifically while visiting PayPal, regularly clear your cache file.
