What s-video cables do i need and what size and what kind of component video cable and what kind of coaxial cable do i need

If your TV has component, then get one component video cable (green/red/blue) and a set of RCA for audio (red/white).
S-Video/Coax is obsolete for dvd players unless you have an old TV.

Determine what kind of video line-in connection the TV has. These connections are typically on the back or side of the TV. You also will need to determine what kind of video line-out connection the computer has.

Types of video connections include S-Video, VGA, DVI and HDMI. The Resources section of this article offers links to sites that will help you identify the connection type of your TV and computer.

  • 2

Purchase a video connection cable that is for the type of connection that the computer and TV share. For example, if the TV and computer both have S-Video ports, you should purchase an S-Video cable. S-Video connections are the most common and least expensive option.

  • 3

Connect the end of the S-Video cable that matches the connection on the computer to the computer video line-out port. Connect the other end to the video line-in port of the same kind on the TV.

  • 4

Convert video from VGA video to S-Video or even component video. Do this if the two connection ports on the computer and TV are not compatible. You will need to purchase a scan converter box, a VGA video cable, and either an S-Video or component video cable. Connect the cable that will connect to the computer jack to the computer and the converter box, and connect the S-Video or component video cable to the TV and the converter box.

Turn on the TV and use the remote control to select "Input." Some TVs will have multiple selections. Turn on the computer and play a movie or display an image on the screen. As you are scrolling through the "Input" options on the television, you will see a matching image of what you opened on your computer on the TV screen when the correct input is selected.

Adjust the screen resolution on the computer if the image on the TV is distorted, too small or too large. Do this by going into Control Panel and Display Settings on the computer. Select a different screen resolution until the image on the TV fits the TV screen

How do I link my IBM t21 to my TV. The sounds works ok from the sound port, and i have an S-video cable to RCA connected, but do not get any picture on my TV

    1. 1 Determine what kind of inputs your TV has. Many sets have the HDMI, DVI or even VGA inputs common on most newer PCs. If you have an older TV with only an analog signal, you will have to get a video card that supports your TV's connection. To determine what kind you need, take a look at the audio/video inputs on the side of your TV. S-video is circular with a bunch of pins; composite video is yellow; and component video is red, green and blue.
    2. Step 2 Find out what kind of video output you have on your computer by looking at your video card. DVI is pretty standard on most computers manufactured in the last four years. Multimedia PCs will have DVI and HDMI. Of course, if you swapped out your video card to accommodate an older TV, your machine will not have either of these connections any longer, but will instead have the one that matches your TV.
    3. Step 3 Purchase cables to run from the TV to the computer. The video cables you need will have the same name as the type of connection on your TV. (For example, if you have S-video, look for an S-video cable.) Note that you will need a stereo-mini-to-RCA cable for the audio as well. All cables are available at most electronics stores. If you shop online, try to save some money. (See the link in Resources.)
    4. Step 4 Connect the cables. No matter what type you have, one end will go in the TV and the other into your computer's port (the video cable in the video card and the audio cable in the audio card). It will be fairly obvious what goes where due to the shape and coloring of the ports. Once both cables are hooked up, make sure the picture and audio on the TV both work. If not, check your connections.

An optical cable is digital but its only audio not video. Are you connected to a cable or satellite box, are you using composit video, s-vid, component video, or hdmi? What kind of cable goes from your denon to your tv?
