Trouble shooting with a finisher failure prompt?

I know this sounds as dunb as the stand tech support "restart you computer" junk but really try a FULL uninstall of the drivers. Run the uninstall remove directories, etc. and then re-install the drivers with the previous version you used. It fixed problem that made my HP 1020 not print for over a month which make no sense because I know that cause was a corrupt printer buffer from an aborted printout.

Xerox Phaser 4500 printer has a U4 fuser code.

From the Xerox Phaser 4500 Service Manual (here), the main problems could be one of:

  • Warm-up failure - Fuser warm-up not complete within 110 seconds after
  • starting.
  • Cool-down error - Cool-down process not complete within 200 seconds.
  • Low trouble temperature - The fuser temperature drops to the low trouble
  • temperature (approximately current control temperature, minus
  • approximately 25°C).
  • High trouble temperature - The fuser temperature rises to the high trouble
  • temperature (approximately current control temperature, plus
  • approximately 35°C).
  • STS circuit open
  • STS failure - The heat rod remains on for at least 10 seconds after warm-
  • up has completed

It could be that your fuser needs to be replaced, but as you can see that code relates to a couple of problems, so even replacing the Fuser might not fix the problem.

If it doesn't even do the warm up checks it is likely to be the fuser because the other components such as STS failure and cooldown won't have had a chance to run..

Nothing is printing. The computer says it's "Printer Pen Failure". What do I do next?

According to HP's website, this error can usually be fixed (barring an actual hardware failure) by re-seating the ink cartridge, turning off printer then turning it back on.

Here is a link to HP's trouble shooting web page for this printer:

I hope this helps.

Best of luck!!

C-0960 error

C0960 Bypass lifting motion failure. To fix this problem, check that there is a clear paper path. The take-up roller has possible not returned to the 'home' position. Turn off the copier, manually rotate the roller to check that it is free. Turn on the copier, once start-up is completed, check that the paper path sensors are clean. Close the by-pass tray and open again. If this fails to reset the code, refer to your service technician.

I have a Gestetner 2712, about 7 years old with only 178,000 copies. Got a wrench, with SC542. Had the same code about 2 months ago and the service tech came out, and 5 minutes and $142 later it was reset....

It seems your machine may be a bit older than 7 years; it appears on an Intravia service CD covering 2001-2003. These are generally not available concurrent with the production period.
I am now retired but the Intravia paper manuals were excellent and returned their cost many times over. The $142 is probably a fair price for a service call by today's standards but if you are interested in maintaining your own machine, I can recommend this to you:
Intravia 2001-2003 Service CD
Note: This will provide information on any service your machine might need unless an outright failure of a board should occur; they do not contain detailed schematics required for such trouble-shooting.
Good luck-

Epson 9600

Are you sure it is not 10000020?

If so, it is a CPU error:

􀂆 Cause of trouble:
Defective circuit board or faulty CPU soldering. Program trouble or generation
􀂆 Remedy:
• Firmware Reinstallation
• Replace the MAIN Board

Firmware re-installation has to be done by either replacing the ROMM or through the parallel interface with a PC

This is all according to the svc manual. I'm not a tech.

Hi Yankee,

Your best bet is to uninstall/re-install your printer drivers that should solve your problem.
