For the drivers, access the following page. Fill the "Search by download type" with your motherboard model "p4m9007mb-8rs2h" and the socondr field with drivers.
http://www.foxconnchannel.com/support/downloads.aspx

Forget the Internet security, You will not get it from the foxconn website.

Good luck

Burned boot to external hard drive, now external is local. Can I get it back to local? does I

when a hard drive dies , everything is lost and I mean everything
no recovery disc , files , folders e-mails , operating system --the lot
best move is to install a new sshd unit and change the bios to boot from the external hard drive
when that is done , you will have to down load all of the drivers for everything you use

Hey i have an acer aspire 5520 and i had to put a different hard drive in now i have no internet and i think the driver might be missing. does that sound right and would a new driver download help?

You need to reinstall all drivers of your laptop since you replaced your hard disk, drivers and os are installed inside your hard disk so if you replaced it you need to reinstall all of it. If you dont have the drivers just download all drivers in the manufacturer's website look for the support page and search for your particular model.

When I click on My computer, the maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus

Hi there,
You can try installing the drivers for the hard disk. Usually XP and vista operating systems detect the drives and install the drivers by themselves. But sometimes there are compatibility issues, which then require manual installation of drivers. I wonder what the operating system on your computer is. Please get back to me if you need further assistance.
Hope this helps :)

XP Drivers for Sony Vaio VGN-fw230j/b

It's probably not supported Sony.

You can try and downgrade but you might lose some functionality. I downgraded my Vista Gateway laptop to XP but had to spend a lot of time tracking down drivers that would work correctly.

You won't be able to just pop in an XP cd and install. You'll have to jump through a few hoops.

Here's the biggest hoop and guide here:

http://maxeasyguide.blogspot.com/2008/04/preparations-for-winxp-installation-cd.html

Since you have a newer laptop your hard drive uses sata drivers which the XP cd doesn't have built-in.

Let me know if you get stuck or have anymore questions.

USB PROBLEM- Hey its me Shademon

shademon - I'm assuming that the drive letter change didn't help? If not, here's the deal. When you installed Vista over XP you may not have had all of the correct drivers installed. There is still an option. Try going to microsoft update and running cutom updates, down the lefthand side you should see a list of "hardware" updates download and install all of those, perhaps there is a driver update for vista. If that doesn't work you probably have a few ports that are direct soldered to your mobo, but you've probably also got a few in the front that run on a 4 - 8 pin cable to your board. You can also buy a card that should go into your vacant PCI slots (make sure it's vista capable) and you should be able to install the drivers/software direct via a CD with the new hardware check out these products newegg is pretty reasonable price http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=PCI+USB hope this helps let me know if I can answer anything else.

Deleting my C drive

Hey,

Unfortunately, windows stores the start up files in the first drive, thats most likely c.. What you can do is. You can delete the windows vista folder from c drive. And then you need to edit the boot ini file so it automatically starts up xp.

Basicly in xp, delete everything related to vista, the windows folder and applications on vista. be carefull not to delete anything important. Ones you have cleaned the c drive of vista, by hand, you can erase the vista startup entry by

press start -> run -> type in msconfig
f03d684.jpg
as you can see I also have a few windowses installed, haven't bothered to clean up due to 1 000 GB drive :-P Anyways just click check boot paths, it should find that the vista is now invalid since you deleted the folder, now it wont bother you at the start up.

Sorry but right now I don't have a good method of moving the bootup files from C to D and then erasing the C drive.. without reinstalling xp on the c drive. Its pretty complex.

let me know if any problems come up.

Hard drive driver problem

Hi,

It is possible that your hard drive is a SATA and therefore not readily readable by 98, XP but surprised not even by Vista. In any case, since you would still prefer to run XP (due to other software compatibility issues), pls press F6 when prompted by the XP installer. Additionally, you would need to have ready in a floppy the appropriate SATA drivers for your motherboard. They maybe downloaded from the motherboard manufacturer's website or possibly in the installer/driver CD that came with the PC.

Other than the above, it is also possible that you may have some issues with the availability of XP drivers for the other devices for that computer specially if it is branded.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

How to make Vista to recognize my old Hard drive

There are normally only two ways to get vista to recognise large drives and that is to format it within windows by way of right click my computer then click manage and then highlight your harddrive right click and select format. The other way is if your drive isnt being recognised because of the bios and needs updating, as most bios chips did when upgrading to vista.
