No internet

My AT&T 2wire router thing loses internet everytime I try to use it. It does not matter where I go in the house, the wireless is always black instead of green on the router. Even when its on it will say i have limited connection or none at all. There isnt anything wrong with my laptop so I figure I just have a crappy router. What should I do seeing as my father bought the damn thing with my money and swears up and down its my new laptop and not the router, even though i know that isnt true
