Take a look at the rubber bumper around the outside of the unit, is it properly seated?

Did you change belt by the small access door on the unit, or is this an older unit that requires removal of the baseplate?

Check each wheel, make sure it spins freely.

Check to make sure the brush roll is turning, it actually "pulls" the unit forward, makes it easier to push.

Off hand, those are the only things that should affect the rolling resistance.

How do you replace a belt on a hoover preferred vacuum cleaner

Your Vacuum is from the Elite series, without your model number I can't be specific but to change the belt on most of them you need to remove the top cover by releasing two tabs underneath to allow the cover to flex so you can remove it. Stick a screwdriver in to move the cover out enough to be released. Remove the belt from the motor shaft, remove and clean or replace the brushroll. Put the new belt around the brush roll and insert it back into the vacuum. You need to stretch the belt enough to get it over the motor shaft. It’s difficult with a new belt because it will be so tight. I insert a big screwdriver through the belt and then put the end of the screwdriver on the motor shaft as a fulcrum to use screwdriver to stretch the belt far enough to go on the motor sxhaft.

I took the roller brush off to clean it,replaced it now it will only spin in the recline position.l put it in the vacuum position and it stops. I have a DC 14 animal.

I'm not sure what you mean by recline and vacuum positions. Normally when the handle is in the upright position to use the tools and hose the brush roll does not turn. When you recline the handle into the floor vacuuming position the brush spins. If you were able to remove the brushroll an reinstall it the brush roll belt is likely very stretched out because otherwise it is very difficult to put the bush roll back in with out using the belt change tool. This can cause the brushroll to spin but stop spinning when when it hits the carpet because he belt is too loose. Belts must be very tight to spin the brush roll in he carpet. There is also another belt that you can't see under the clutch cover. It becomes stretched out also. The belts need to be replace every few years as do any stretch belts. The hard part about changing belts on your model is they are inside the clutch, it's easier to replace the whole clutch. If you have any questions or need any of the parts or belt change tool please email me at thatvacguy@gmail.com.

Where is the belt on a Dyson dc07 vacuum ?

There are two belts in the clutch under the clutch cover. Both need replaced every few years as do all stretch belts. It's difficult on your model without the belt change tool. You can see one of the belts as it goes around the brush roll. If you have any questions on how to do it or need the tool or any parts please email me at thatvacguy@ gmail.com

Change a belt

You did not state your model or make so I can't explain how to change your model but most vacuums you must remove the bottom plate held on by screws that covers the brush roll, remove the brush roll and belt and reverse the process with the new belt. Some models have the brush roll held in by screws and/or brackets, some brush rolls slide down into slots. Replace the brush roll if the bristles are worn or frayed. If you are not replacing the brush roll remove the endcaps if possible and clear any hair or debris that has worked it's way in there.
Cogged belts are different from stretch belts and do not need to be replaced at least once per year like stretch belts do. You should still remove the brush roll at least once or twice per year to clean out debris. Maybe more often if it gets hair or strings wrapped around it which can build up causing friction and heat which can melt or damage the brush roll or even the nozzle housing.

How to change belt of riccar vacuum rsl3

Remove the bottom plate after laying the vacuum upside down, make sure it's not plugged in first. Pull the brush roll out of the nozzle housing, put the new belt around the motor shaft and then the brush roll, pull on the brush roll to give you enough leverage to install the brush roll back into place, reinstall the bottom plate.

Is it necessary to take the vacuum cleaner apart to change the belt on a Hoover Wind Tunnel Self Propelled vacuum cleaner, model UI6460-900? If so, how is that done? If not, how do you get the belt on...

To change the belts, make sure the vacuum is not plugged in. Lay it upside down and remove the screws holding the bottom plate on. Remove the bottom plate, pull the brush roll out noting how the belt goes so you will know how to put it back together. Especially how it goes around the idler pulley. Remove both belts, replace both belts, install the V belt onto the transmission first then around the brush roll and put the brush roll in place. Install the flat belt around the motor shaft and then onto the transmission pulley.

8955 Upright Vacuum: How to change belt?...

Be sure to unplug your vacuum from the electrical outlet before proceeding!

-Turn your vacuum upside down so that the handle is resting on the floor and nozzle portion is resting on a work bench.
-Remove the 2 phillips screws from the metal bottom plate and set the bottom plate aside.
-Look at the right side of the brush roll. You will see a bent metal rod that attaches to the brush roll end cap. This is the clutch rod that allows your brush roll to spin or not depending on the position of the carpet/floor switch on the top of the nozzle. Pull this rod out of the brush roll clutch only. Leave the switch end of the rod where it is and just let the rod rest there.
-Pull the brush roll and old belt out and dispose of the old belt.
To install a new belt; put the new belt on the motor shaft first, next put the other end of the belt over the end of the brush roll and stretch belt and brush roll back in to place. Notice that on the brush roll end cap opposite of where the clutch rod goes, there is a metal piece with a slot cut into it. Be sure that this slot mates with the plastic stop in the nozzle so that the end cap cannot move.
Snap the clutch rod back in place and rotate the brush roll by hand to make sure the belt is not pinched.
Replace the bottom plate.

To get to the brush roll, you have to take the bottom part. There is no belt, the brush roll motor is part of the brush roll.
