My Toshiba Satellite L25 S119 will play a DVD but

My Toshiba Satellite L25 S119 will play a DVD but not play/rip a CD (does not show a cd in the drive). The cd will spin and I get clicking sounds with a flashing orange light. I rip CD's regularly and almost never watch DVD's. The optical drive is a TSST corp CDW/DVD TS-L462C. Toshiba website has no updates available. What should I do?
