I have a Toshiba cx35e70

A) basing of what you have mentioned:,

" Pulled out the mainboard and re-soldered tuner pins and
checked for broken traces. After that all worked fine for
awhile. Now, the set has a live screen with a quick
flashing picture with no sound. " ,


you need to use magnifying glass to look for your

accidental shorted paths. which may have been

caused by resoldering the board.

B) now you have another trouble , flashing picture,

C) the trouble you are having may be caused by the tuner.

D) for tuner:

1) you may need to disable the tuner pin voltage supply

2) once it is disabled turn again if problem still persist

3) if, it is, means the trouble is not on your tuner.


E) assuming that tuner is still disabled ( no supply), you

will now go tracing back to the horizontal deflection

circuits.

F) under horiz def there are horiz out, flyback transformer

horiz drive transistor and transformer. these main components

are the most essential part of the TV.

without them your TV wont work.

G) the reason why the sound and picture cuts-off due to

the failure of the horiz oscillator.

H) there is also a possibility of intermittent supply on

the horiz oscillator


I) also a possibility that the horiz osc is being blocked.

J) check also the power supply circuits monitor the

supply to the horiz def circuits, might also be

intermittently failing.


k) these might seems odd but include the vertical circuits

include the output capacitor with vert IC.


All of these are just possibilities,to be precised you need

a service manual just to point to you where the trouble

might be.

have someone to helped you trace circuits, it can be done with

a help.

osc = oscillator
horiz = horizontal
vert = vertical

Is the VCR going through ch 3 or video inputs - if video inputs your TV tuner is likely bad if through ch 3 seeif te picture goes funny on ch 3 without using the VCR the tuner may be bad on higher band channels - smetimes you can remove the tuner and resolder the tuner itself. But if it always works with the VCR just use it that way and don't bother with the fix.
