It is a fact that during lightening all electronic and electrical gadgets should be unplugged from the wall socket. And I am sorry to inform you that your K50P is burnt. Not completely, but a part of the circuitry is gone. That part can only be replaced and not repaired. So open the back cover and look for burnt.burst chip and replace that module.

Open the cover fixed with some screws. and take a peep inside. Try to smell burnt part. And look for odd brown color that indicates burnt component. That module has to be replaced.

If the unit was on or standby during the bad weather then it may be hit with a high voltage and affected the board…you need to do some troubleshooting starting by resetting the system, if not can you open the inside? If you can look for the fuses next to the AC inlet if not look for a noticeable burns or melted parts on the boards, but be very carefully as the unit still will have lots of AC charge, let know. Then you need to start tracing the board to see any sign of fire and test the components, that if you did the re-setting of the TV. Does your TV controlled by the remote control or from the TV? You may need to reset your control too.

Let me know. Please do not forget to grade my assistance so I am able to continue to provide you with better service. I will be working with you to conclusion of the issues

All components and equipment are designed differently.
The TV is a little unique it requires very hi voltage for the picture tube. and the rest requires a much lower voltage.
plus the TV requires a cable feed and is also plugged into the wall.
If lightening strikes the TV cable outside, all that energy has to find a path to ground, sometimes this path can be through the TV cable through the electronics inside your TV to the power plug to the wall, which has a ground ( do not remove the ground, it will make it worse)
This is one possibility of what happened.

You should check the, or ask the cable company to check their TV cable, and ensure it is properly grounded. but even if it was grounded properly, it will help , it is still not 100%, a direct hit will still take it out. Best bet is to disconnect all electrical appliances during a lightening (thunder) storm.
A surge protector is basically made to handle "normal" power surges within your house's electrical current - it's not made to be a lightning rod.

Your TV was fried because the current from the lightning strike came in through the antenna wire, regardless of whether use cable or a roof mounted antenna. Even though your cable wire is "grounded", it isn't a cure all against all lightning strikes.

Your TV is more receptive to static and electrical charges than a VCR, etc. Although your accessories are ok, the TV couldn't handle the shock (pun intended).

After you replace your TV, whenever a ("big") thunderstorm is heading your way, disconnect the cable hookup from your set. If you're going away on vacation, make sure you unhook your TV too.

Hello! Hoping for the best here - but your problem may just simply be a blown fuse. Make sure the unit is unplugged, and then on the back, right hand side you should see a small round knob - remove this knob and inside will be a fuse. If it is blown, be sure to replace with the same size.

Hope this helps and good luck! Thanks for using FixYa!

I would like to know what causes Sony str-km2 protection mode after hit by a lightning

There are failed components in the receiver. The protection mode prevents a fire from starting by those failed components. Lightening strike ruins the majority of components on the circuit boards whether you can see the damage or not. Get an estimate from a repair shop. If it comes back as toast, then get yourself a new unit. Damage from lightening is not usually covered by your home owners policy

No Display, no sound- not working, showing dead. But input Power is ok. Picture tube filamment not getting power. model sony KV-2192M3

Hello
Check the input fuse first. If it is blown, there will be some short inside the power regulator circuit. Usually Sony sets uses STR regulated power supply. You can see this STR, and Ic, screwed onto a heatsink. Replace it with a same type and number. Before replacing the STR, check the diodes used in that section for damage, mainlu zener diodes. They might get shorted along the blowing of the STR. Check that section throughly before resoldering the new STR.
If any further assistance you needs, get me through Fixya. Ok.

Powers up, all lights buttons seem to work, but no sound

This can happen. Lightening causes static charge that can be picked up by speaker wires. It is possible ONE of the amplifiers has failed.
To check, have the room quiet. Turn on the amp. After 5 to 10 seconds there should be a nice solid 'CLICK' from inside the amp. If there is no click, the unit is in safety mode. You will need a service shop.

Hello, I need help with my sony str-de197 receiver. Then I hit power on button, there is a click sound inside the box, but nothing happens, there is nothing on display too. I have checked 2 fuse's, it's...

It sounds like the switch might be OK mechanically but not electrically. Have a look to see if you can check the connections on the switch. Perhaps there is a broken or loose or bad solder joint.

Can't get subwoofer working with sony model STR-DE845 receiver

read the manual

http://www.retrevo.com/support/Sony-STR-DE845-Receivers-manual/id/387ci973/t/2/

First, it must be a self-powered subwoofer, then you've got some settings to select in the receiver.

I have a str dg820 only about 2 months old. Recently went to power up and I get PROTECTOR message and it shuts down. I checked all speaker connections and they appear to be fine. It worked well for two...

Try disconnecting everything (all inputs, outputs and speakers, make sure there is no cable plugged into your unit except the power cord), turn it on, if it still shows the protect message, you have an internal short or a burnt out component inside the unit, possibly a desoldered contact on one of the connectors which generates internal noise of such intensity that it sends the unit into the protect mode.

If, after trying the above mentioned, there's no message, some other possibilities are:

- a bad speaker or speaker cable
- a bad signal interconnection cable
- a fault in any of the other units connected to your reciever/amplifier

Hope you cand find something out...

Good luck
