I have a dell 700M laptop. My Intel Pro/Wireless 2200BG card will not turn on. I press FN-F2 to turn on my wireless manually, and when I do this the wireless does not turn on. I tried turning it on through the Intel interface, through My Network Connections, and every other conceivable way. The wireless card is enabled but it says that I have to turn the hardware radio switch on manaully (function F2). The function key works fine so do you think the F2 key is malfunctioning? Thanks.

This is a insprion 700m. It does not have a switch like the one you show. To turn on the wireless card all you do is press Fn-F2 and the wifi light comes on and it connects to whatever wireless is availible. However, now all of the sudden when I press the Fn-F2 button, nothing happens. The light does not come on and I do not connect.

How do I go about connecting to the internet in order to download the drivers. I am e-mailing you on my desktop because the laptop in question will not connect to the internet. I tried running an ethernet cable to the laptop but I cannot connect to the internet with that either.

  • rsmasker Sep 26, 2009

Installed the drivers and it still does not work.

The wireless switch is a type of switch which is located on the sides of the laptop. It is a type of sliding switch which looks like this.
wifi will not connect. Worked fine. Now the wifi - 2a8d31c.jpg
Look for this and place it in on-position.

Dell has a software called Dell Utility in the Programs. Look for the same and look for Radio on /Off check box. Sometimes the radio tends to turn off automatically because of which you may not be able to connect to internet.

May be you need to try and reinstall the drivers for the wireless card from the Dell's support website.

    Click on

    www.support.dell.com

Choose Drivers and Downloads and choose your model or you can enter the service tag of the system stuck beneath the system.

Choose Ethernet and wirless drivers for your system and install the same. This should resolve the issue.

    Kindly comment.

You can download the software on your desktop and save anywhere in the desktop. Connect Flash drive and save it into the flash drive. Now connect the flash drive to your laptop and install the same

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. This is happening not due to a software issue but due to hardware issue. The physical connections inside your laptop on the WiFi card are loose. Or it may have happened due to a loose connection between the WiFi card and motherboard. Try and open your laptop and check for the physical connections inside the laptop. Please see this disassembly procedure--

  • Turn off the laptop. Make sure the laptop has been shutdown completely and that the computer is no longer plugged into a wall outlet. Remove the battery. If you have recently been using the computer, wait at least 3 to 4 hours before disassembling it to reduce the amount of static discharge.

  • Open the screen. Open the screen up completely so that the laptop lays completely flat. Make sure it is securely positioned on a flat, hard surface.

  • Remove the keyboard panel. Pry off the strip of plastic located directly above the keyboard. This piece is covering several screws attached to the motherboard, and removing this first is the easiest way to get to the motherboard components and the cooling fan.

  • Remove keyboard screws. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the keyboard down. Set the screws aside in a safe place.

  • Remove the keyboard. Gently tug on the keyboard and lift it up to reveal the ventilation fan and the tab holding the keyboard to the motherboard. You can now clean the ventilation fan if you need to.

  • Begin disassembling the motherboard. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to unscrew the large screw located in the center of the motherboard. This screw is holding two large metal plates covering the motherboard together.

  • Remove the motherboard cover plates. Gently lift the detached plates off the laptop and set aside in a safe place.

  • Remove the cooling fan. Use the Phillips head screwdriver to unscrew the cooling fan panel; you will need to unscrew three screws located around the fan, then lift the cooling fan out of its holder. You can now clean out the cooling fan if necessary.

  • Close the laptop. Place a clean, thin dishcloth over the motherboard and gently close the screen. Turn the entire laptop over so that the base is now facing up and the battery is facing away from you.

  • Unscrew hard drive and memory components. The hard drive is located in the bottom right hand corner; the memory unit is located in the center of the laptop. Unscrew both of these by removing the small screws at the bottom of each unit and remove the covers on each.

  • Remove WiFi cover. The WiFi unit is located at the top left of the laptop; remove the two screws from this unit and lift the WiFi cover off the laptop. Check for all the connections. Reassemble and check.

Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

Go to the control panel-network connections and see if your wifi is there. If it is disable it and then enable. You should be ok after that. If not then you need to download the software for it. Try it now and if it don't work post a comment and I track the software for you.

Why doesn't my digiland tablet connect to the internet at work. The wifi info says it's connected and excellent! Works fine at home. I also use a Nook Tablet and it connects fine!

Usually with 'work wifi', or any public hotspot, merely connected isn't enough. You have to open your browser and connect to a new page. It has to be something that isn't in history or cache. I favour ba.com because it is short. Accept the Terms and Conditions and click Connect. Once the page refreshes, you are connected.

At home, you are connecting to your own internet and not through a third party company like Datavalet, Boingo or similar. There is no terms and conditions to accept, so you are immediately connected.

Lost wifi connection over night

You need to reinstall the wifi drivers.

Alternatively you can use the Microsoft troubles shooter by going to the control panel, picking network and sharing centre, then adaptor settings and selecting your adaptor. Then right click and from the menu, select diagnose. This will reset the adaptor if it has become locked up.

Ipod touch will not connect to belkin wireless router.

If your Ipod touch will not 'find' your Belkin N router - or it did and then vanished forever try this- it worked for me.
1.Turn wifi off on your computer, ensure you have the latest firmware on your router, reset the router to factory default.Do this using a wired connection from the admin page.
2. Change the SSID name from what it was previously say from Belkin xyz to my router.
3. Power down the router wait about 30 seconds then power it back up.
4. As you reset to factory setting you will need to put in your internet access info again - do this from the admin page. Also set up your security at the same time.
5. Restart the router from the admin page.
6. Unplug wired connection start wifi and connect to your computer -make sure that you have full internet access from you computer - dont forget you need to connect to the newly renamed router.
7. Take ipod and make sure wifi is off.
8. Clear network settings.
9.Turn wifi on and it should find your newly renaned router - join and enter your pass key.

Why it does it I have no idea neither do Belkin or Apple but it worked for me - a trial and error solution !

Good luck
