No Power Battery needed charging, charged it, placed in the camera as usual,s till no power. Just brought a new battery with the hope that the battery is faulty or past it's sell by... Have to say though.. the manufacturer said that there is a little power in the battery so I attempted it to see if there would be any joy, alas still not powering up. I currently recharging the battery to see if this does the trick... however not hopeful... Quite surprised that such an expensive bit of kit is faulty only just 8 months occassional use.. Will update the outcome...

SOURCE: WILL NOT POWER ON

Your camera is still under warranty. Recommend letting Canon try to correct this, instead of trying to fix this yourself.

Here's the support page for your camera:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=SupportDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=221&modelid=14905

Or you can call them directly at 1 (800) 828-4040.

SOURCE: WILL NOT POWER ON

Rechargeable batteries don't produce enough voltage to power the camera. I tried using them and couldn't get much life at all with an older camera, and then noticed that the rated voltage for rechargeables is 1.2 volts. New lithium batteries put out over 1.7 volts, and new alkalines put out over 1.6. I've had to ditch the rechargeables and just use lithiums to get the best life.

It's a scam that the rechargeables don't do any better than they do. All you can use them for is dim flashlights and kid's toys.

Well, I'm the 12th user. Just wanted to post that my camera had the same issue at 13 months old. I'm about to take it in for service under warranty. Hope I don't run in to problems getting it taken care of! This site was very helpful in helping me determine the issue.

SOURCE: Canon 40d-pressing the shutter seems to short out the camera.

I recommend that you remove both batteries for ten minutes to get a full reset. you spoke of the main battery. When you open the battery compartment, look at the lower right toward the camera with the LCD facing you.
It is a little hard to see, but will say CR2016 3V. Stick your fingernail under the lip and just pull it out.
As I said I left both batteries out for about 10 minutes.
You will have to re-set the date and time after your done.

Fast flashing green light when trying to charge

usually fast flashing charge is faulty battery its trying to get volts in to the battery. you see the battery has a charging board on the battery not in the camera the camera sends the volts to the battery and the battery tells the camera its voltage, and when at the right volts stops charging. but these batteries can only be charged to around 10000hrs depending on the type of battery. you see when you get a new battery you need to charge it before use, now this can be 6hrs to 12hrs for fist time use if you interrupted the charge or have a power cut while it charges it can damage the charging chip in the battery. if this does the flashing light on other batteries then the signal is not being read by the camera and the camera can be faulty on the charging circuit, usually (sometimes) removing the battery for a few hours can fix this but it will rest the camera. hope this helps you.

Canon powershot a3300

If nothing is wrong with the camera, the battery is placed correctly, the battery cover is closed correctly then only one thing can be wrong. Even when you don't believe it is possible, the battery can be flat again.
So to make sure everything is as you think. Charge the battery again, and look if the charger acts as usually. The charging lamp turns orange and charging begins. When the charging is finished, the lamp turns green. Last time you charged, it could have taken 4 hours, before the lamp went green. If the battery is recently charged, it only will take a fraction of that time. If it still takes a long time, your battery was empty. It is recommended, to charge not longer than for 24 hours. After charging, please wait till the battery is cooled down. Then insert it again and close the battery cover. Check the cover closes correctly. And now switch on again.
If you charged with an USB cambs connected to the camera. Don't forget to remove the cable, because the camera won't start as long as an USB cable is connected.

My camera no longer powers on. I bought a new

Not using a camera much, along with time and chemical degradation within the battery itself, and oxidation on contacts both within the camera and on the battery, can cause this problem. It's always best to measure the voltage on a power cord with a voltmeter, but in your case it's probably good since it's new. In certain types of rechargeable batteries, you have to "recycle" them with at least 3 or 4 different charging periods. This is true for new or old ones that haven't been used much. It takes this to get them to fully charge. Make sure the battery is charged fully, if you try a new one, upon discovering a bad or shorted present battery. If it still doesn't work, clean the battery contacts both inside and outside the camera. They can be corroded slightly from battery leakage, or just oxidation from humidity over time. Use a pencil eraser, and wipe them with alcohol and a soft cloth or q-tip. Hopefully, you will have it working. If not, it could be a corroded contact pad on the on/off switch, or something even trickier. Make sure you get an estimate if you should elect to have it repaired. That will usually tell you whether it's time to buy a new one, as you're thinking, anyway. Try these simple things, you might get lucky. Good luck!

My lightly used nikon coolpix s570 has developed a power issue. Meaning that with a fully charged battery, the camera won't turn on. sometimes removing and reinserting the battery will get it to turn on....

If you have a second battery, fully charge it and try it. If you do not have a second battery, it make either be a defective battery or a battery that is not properly charging. Try powering on the camera until you get it powered up, either by reinserting the battery or turning it one. Then purposely use the flash and focus until you totally exhaust the battery. Then charge it for the recommended time. Try the battery in the camera once more. Also look into the battery compartment and make sure there is no corrosion. After these actions, the only other thing I could suggest is trying a new battery or sending it in for repair. Usually it is the battery though.
