One of those small ceramic units is compact and would do the job for a truck camper. They have fans built in and are pretty quiet. They are cheap and don't take up valuable space. I would look in a BigLots or close out type store.

I have an on/off switch inside the camper and outside the camper where water heater is located. does this mean i have a propane/electric water heater?

Most likely if you have a switch that just is on/off it is for powering an electric water heater. If the water heater is propane and electric there would be a selector switch to choose between the two power sources.

Just want to figure up to truck to hook up camper with lights

Take it to an automotive electrical place , It won't cost much.
It's kind of a pain to do it your self. you have to lay under the truck and probe several wires and tap into them , and get them all right.
Most larger campers will have a 7 pin connector. 12 V for charging the battery , lights , brakes and reverse if the camper hides your truck lights , electric brake (not used) , ground ,

Is it a slide in camper? and if so there should be jacks that go at the 4 corners above the truck box. you lift the camper up slightly and drive the truck out from under the camper. The jacks could have been removed and stored in the camper under a bench seet in the dinett.

Also try http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx. They have a great website with lots of info. With the tow package, there should be a plug under the dash... far left above the emerg. brake petal. The harness that plugs into it should have came with the truck, or you can order one to fit it. Did thew truck come with a 7 pin plug on the back? If not you can order one from the above mentioned site. They also have the wiring colors.

Auxiliary battery use

The extra battery is there because of the glow plugs and intake heater of the duramax. During cold weather both of these systems draw high amperage from the batteries. A single battery will function, but not as well as a pair.
