My remote intermittenly opens/closes the garage door

I have a sears 76LE garage door opener. we bought the house used and don't know how old the opener and remote are. I changed the battery in the remote and the problem still exists. when i leave in the morning, sometimes the remote will close the door and sometimes it won't. the wall unit always opens/closes the door. when I return 9/10 times the remote will open the door. I'm hoping it's as easy as finding a universal remote and reprogramming it. but, which make/model?

You can find a free manual for your door opener at manualsonline .com You might want to look at how to program it and change the unit to a different frequency. You can sometimes get better response and eliminate interference. Also make sure your battery contacts in the remote are clean.

I just installed a new rolling code chamberlain garage door. it works fine, however my other garage door opener is a much older sears.

the remote can use only 1 button to open and close if programmed right
open the lid of the seers control box and press the program button then use a different button on the remote to open and close
It would appear that the seers unit is also made by chamberlain

The garage door remotes and keypad works only when i,m very close to opener, will not work at more then 6 ft away from opener. sears hbw0777

How old are the batteries in the remotes and keypad? Replace the batteries. If that helps, then you have solved the problem.

If it doesn't help, then check the antenna wire of the opener. (Make sure it is extended down from the unit.) Note this doesn't apply to all garage door openers. (We have several models - some with the external antenna and some without.)

Does your garage have metal walls and metal doors? This can shorten the range between the receiver and the remotes or keypad. An antenna extension may be available.

I don't see the HBW077 as a model number at Sears Parts Direct or Manage My Life. Please check the model and let me know if I can provide any additional assistance. (Sears Parts Direct has parts for my garage door openers. Manage My Life has manuals for Craftsman and Sears appliances.)

I hope this helps.

I bought a house with an old (1980's) Sears garage door opener. I have two Stanley remotes that were in the house at the time of purchase. The opener works fine at the hardwired button in the garage but I...

On the remotes put switch #1 in either position and match up switches 2 through 10 to the dipswitches on the motor unit. There is a good possibility your receiver has quit working.

Have a Sears Opener 76LE that has operated without trouble for over 25 years. Yesterday, I tried to open door and as soon as unit was under load, went into the close mode, then tried to open, then closed....

If your opener is truly 25 years old there are not going to be any parts available. The model number you give is not the model number. It starts with 139. and probably has 6 numbers after the period or dash. Once you have it you can go to Sears parts and see if there are parts available.

Sears garage door opener 1/2 hp about 6 years old. Will not respond to remotes to open and close. Light flashes on opener when remote is pressed but no door action.

Door sensors are not working. Check if lights are on both sides.
Might be misaligned or one is bad.
Door will close if you hold in the garge close button until it's all the way down.
And it will open on it's own.
You can get these off ebay.

Hi Don, I have a Sears model 76LE that has been working fine but now it won't turn off when it closes. the motor just keeps running until i smack the side of the unit and then it quits. it opens fine, but...

I would remove the cover and take a good look at the limit switch assembly. If you watch it you will understand how it is supposed to work. There could be a bad connection on the logic board. You can remove it and check it over.
