Question about Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

My Canon printer (Pixma MP530) will not turn on. It's five years old, and worked fine until I left turn for a while. When I came back, I could not get it to work: nothing on the printer screen, no light or led, nothing. Checked the plugs, rebooted, still nothing. Suggestions?

Try unplugging it for five minutes. Then plug it back in.

We are moving and need the MP530 to operate wireless and wish to buy the interface through the router; does a (say) five year old MP530 support a wireless interface?

This model printer has only an USB printer connection.
To connect this printer to a wireless network, you need additional equipment, a print server with an USB pirnter connection and then connect this printer server to a wireless router using a LAN cable.
It may be easier to purchase a new printer with wireless connectivity.

Canon mp530 printer

With the power on to machine and it turned on, open scanner lid by lifting entire top upwards(operations panel lifts up), cartridge mechanism should move to the left to allow cartridge removal, push cartridges down to remove.

Where is the serial number on a Canon PIXMA MP530 multifunction printer?

The serial number of the PIXMA MP530 is located inside the printer, as shown below.
  1. Lift the Scanning Unit (Printer Cover) until it locks into place.

  2. When the printer is powered on and the Scanning Unit is lifted, the Paper Output Tray will open automatically. If the Paper Output Tray does not open after several seconds, press the Open button to open the tray manually.

  3. Open the Inner Cover.
The serial number is attached to the back wall inside the printer.
It starts with four letters (AAGA) and ends with five numbers. Example: AAGA01234

It won't turn on. Out of the blue, it just won't turn on. It isn't damaged. It's pretty new - about 2 years old, no more than 3 years old. The cord appears to be fine.

If you can reach it, you need to remove the printhead. When they go bad the printer won't turn on. If it's stuck on the right you may need a shop to remove it and replace it.

I did the same bloomin' thing!!!!!

After 5 hours on this pixma mp530 including perusing numerous websites, emailing canon AND talking to technical support, I knew I didn't want to drive 2 1/2 hours to a canon authorized store.  Plus, my product was just over a year old (didn't want to buy a new one) so I kept pushing in and up (on the cartridge) with as much strength as I had with my thumb and forefinger (not real strong) and it finally popped out, thankfully.

Canon PIXMA 530 grinds away

I had a persistant grinding noise about 30 seconds after the printer finished printing. It's been going on about 2 months. I did one thing which seemed to work. So try opening the cover on the back of the machine by lifting upward on the gray lever in the middle of the back of the machine. Leave this cover open during and after printing. The grinding noise went away.

Chip/no chip issue for Canon Pixma MP530

the printer NEEDS ink cartridge WITH the chip
BUT, you can move the chip from the old to the new cartridge, you just lose the ability to monitor ink level....you have to visually check it from time to time
been doing it for months now... works fine, just keep a close eye on the ink when it starts to get low, can hose the printhead for that color if empty
printheads run around $55 or so - so actually, savings in ink will easily pay for a new printhead every now and then, if you screw up  :)
