Wierd, what camera, settings are you using? have you ever tried using the CLS (creative lighting system)? could you have left it on "remote" or "master unit" with it turned off. Then it will send out the preflash but not fire during the exposure.

My nikon D60 and the pop up flash dosent work

the flash pivot on the release side of the flash has a small cylinder that operates the flash up switch. If that cylinder is broken off or the pivot is pushed in so the switch doesn't close, then what you describe happens

pop up the flash and remove the two screws underneath, and you can pry off the cover - gently - to check the switch

What do the positions 1, 2, and 3 do on the DF-120 Camera Flash? I have lost its User Manual.

If I'm not mistaken it's the different times at which you want the flash to fire (time after the shutter opens and before it closes).
One of the positions will be in sync with the camera build in flash (if it has one) due to the auto sync that the flash has build in.

How can you test a camera before use to be sure the flash sync is working properly.

Set camera up and aim at a blank wall. Place flash on camera, fire off test shots with camera set to flash sync speed and lens set to wide angle (eg 18 mm), ensure flash matches angle of lens.
You will probably have to turn auto focus off, so that camera will fire, after taking photo/s use review to ensure that you have a nice even coloured piece of wall.
Any problems either with camera sync problems or flash coverage will show up in the test shots.
Camera sync, will show as part of the frame only exposed, for example you may find a horizontal line approximately 1/3 to 1/2 of frame with a proportion of the frame dark.
If you have flash "drop off" you will find the corners of your frame will be dark, you need to ensure that your flash angle specified on the flash and the focal length of the lens match.
Hope this helps Ian

My sb 600 fires with the camera but it seems not illuminate

Definately a settings problem. The camera will only syncronize on one specific speed. Youe best bet is to use auto. For manual, you'll have to set the shutter speed at the sync speed.

Flash Sync Speed
  • up to 1/250 X-Sync Speed
  • up to 1/8000 FP High Speed Sync
  • Red-eye reduction
    Red-eye reduction with slow sync
    Rear-curtain sync
    Slow sync
Front-curtain sync (normal) Flash Sync Modes
  • 1) i-TTL: TTL flash control by 1,005-pixel RGB sensor, built-in flash, SB-800, SB-600, SB-400: i-TTL balanced fill-flash and standard i-TTL flash
    2) AA (Auto Aperture-type) flash: Available with SB-800 used with CPU lens
    3) Non-TTL Auto: Available with Speedlights such as SB-800, 28, 27, and 22S
    4) Range-priority manual flash; available with SB-800 Flash Control

    Sunpak 383 problem

Try to trigger it by shorting Center of shoe mount and the side terminal with a small wire.If it is firing the flash is ok.
If not there is open connection in the sync jack ,due to repeated inserting of sync chord. The springy part inside is not going back to its normal position.
You can fix it your self by opening it(adapter only)
.If you are new to this take a photo of the wiring immediately after opening the shoe adapter to see the position if any wire breaks later on.
Do not give up .383 is great flash

Studio Strobe not firing with Coolpix

The Coolpix line of cameras require a "tip positive" sync connection to an external strobe unit (when using the Nikon AS-15 Flash Sync Adapter). On some external Studio Strobe units the sync polarity is easy to change because of the type of plug: On this type of connector simply turn the plug around and insert it with the male pin connectors in the other holes. Other types of connectors (such as the standard "phono" plug) are not generally changeable by the user. If the Coolpix does not fire an external strobe check with the strobe manufacturer for sync polarity info.
