Wireless printer not reading prints

I've tried on a number of occasions to print to my wireless brother 6490CW printer that is stationed only 2'-0" away but cannot seem to get any readings to print. Both my PC and labtop were working and reading the 6490 at one point, but for some reason I can no longer print from both stations. How can I fix this problem?

SOURCE: Networking a Printer on a wireless network

Deanna, if the mfc is not that old, take it back to the dealer and ask for changing it to a wireless printer (extension: CW). Do you really need the fax function? If not, try this printer: DCP 750CW. If yes, get the MFC 845 CW. The CN printer have to be connected directly to router or pc/laptop.

SOURCE: I have a Brother MFC 6490cw and can't Get The

if you have done a couple cleanings and it has not helped, its one of 2 things, either your ink cartridge is empty and needs to be replaced, or the nozzles are clogged on the printhead, also air can be in the turbing causing it not to let the liquid flow.

thanks adi

SOURCE: BROTHER MFC-6490CW won't connect to wireless router

have you found a solution? I just purchased brother wireless printer, same thing, called and they said it must be my router. I haven't had a chance to play with it as much as you have, but before I do was wondering if you found a way to make it work yet?

You have 2 printers because it was inadvertently installed twice. You need to un-install both of them and reinstall the printer again.

I am trying to talk to a Brother MCF-6490CW printer which has been added to my wireless network. On my laptop, when I try to add a wireless device to the network, the printer shows in the list of available...

It's a 1-16 digit code; knowing Brother, it's buried in the driver installation for a connected printer to get a working code generated. Contrawise, it could be on the wireless card in the printer (...on a sticker.)

The pairing code is a series of letters and numbers unique to a particular printer that you typically find on a sticker attached to the printer itself or on the front of your printer's manual.

Failing that, print a test page and blam, extra info like that!

How do I get my Brother MFC-6490CW to connect with wireless connection. I can print a test page to it wireless but windows fax and scan does not find it

Ensure you have properly installed the communication between the printer and the hub and only then install the relevant software to windows. It appears that something has not properly being installed.

BROTHER MFC-6490CW won't connect to wireless router

Having the same issue with 6490CW and Uverse internet. It connected just fine to my wireless when I had AT&T DSL. Well, just fine is an overstatement, it would constantly go "offline" and need to be re-connected but at least it printed fine when it was. Now, I switched to Uverse and it WILL NOT connect wirelessly. I went the cabled ethernet route and it STILL has tons of issues recognizing the printer and printing, often stopping mid print and spitting out a half printed page or just not printing at all and telling me the printer is turned off. Next step is to try connecting with a straight up USB connection, bypassing the network completely. I feel like that's my only option short of getting a new printer. Brother's software simply does not work with some networks it seems. I guess it has issues with FIOS as well. This does not surprise me and it is also not surprising that Brother has not updated the drivers for my printer since 2009. Pretty ridiculous since things have changed a lot on the technology front in almost 4 years.

I can not print

You could try to use static ip to remove possible problems with dns retrieving:
  • Set the machine to static ip (Menu -> Network -> WLAN -> Boot Method -> Static).
  • Check the ip number on the machine (Menu -> Network -> WLAN -> IP address)
  • On your PC, go to Control Panel -> Printers
  • Right-click printer, choose Properties
  • Choose Ports and click "Add Port"
  • Double-click on Standard TCP/IP, follow the guide and type in your IP number earlier retrieved.
  • Save settings, press OK and the problem could be solved (if it was due to dns problems).
Also, if it works, you can change the network settings for scanner driver to go to ip address too instead of dns, even if it isn't a problem right now, it could later be.
