SOURCE: printer prints backwards/upsidedown

This sounds like an advanced setting on your printer setup. When you get to the print dialog, hit Properties for your printer, then look around there for a "mirror" or "reverse" setting. Different printers use different drivers, so your configuration options are difficult to predict.

SOURCE: BROTHER DCP-560CN Not printing enough yellow

This can happen to cartridges with attached print heads such as HP, Lexmark or Dell. All cartridges are weighed and tested before leaving the factory so lack of ink isn't the problem. It usually has to do with the print head of the cartridge not having any ink to feed it. This happens because cartridges are kept flat or upside down for weeks or months before being used and the ink settles away from the print head. The easiest remedy is to open the box and stand the cartridge upright for a few minutes before using. Then get a damp paper towel, fold it into quarters and sit the cartridge print head down onto it. Hold the cartridge down to the damp paper towel for three minutes. This will help pull the ink out of the print heads, priming them and getting them ready to print. Finally, install the cartridge into your printer and print a few test pages.

How can I get dried ink out of my inkjet print head so I can print again? Place the clogged cartridge in about 1/4 - 1/2 inch of warm water for a few minutes. When ink starts to slowly leak out take the cartridge out of the water and dry it using a soft cloth to "Q-tip." Then place it back in your printer and run the print head cleaning utility that comes with your printer software. You may have to run this 2-4 times before printing quality is reestablished. If your print head is destroyed, as can happen, you will have to buy a cartridge and refill that cartridge before it is fully empty

Why doesn't everything shown in preview appear on the printed page?

You need to look at your margins. Many times the screen preview extends beyond the margins. Many devices depending upon your print driver will not always print the same as on the screen. Change your margins to .5" on the document and then check the print. If you live in Southeast Florida Advanced business computers is a great source for help. When printing a duplex booklet, the printout is reduced in size with larger margins than in original document. How can I get it to print regular size?

It happens when the documents is on A4 size and the printer is set to print on letter size (which is smaller in size). Hence the printer automatically resizes the prints which result in larger margins and print as compared to the actual document.
Therefore, when you print the documents (Press Ctrl+P) you have to select the paper (A4) from the print properties.

Hope it helps! Good Luck!

I am trying to print onto pre-printed forms which have a dark blue band at the top. My printer isn't recognising that the band is there so is starting to print too far down the page. Help please!

This type of problem can usually be resolved simply by adjusting the margins from within your word processing program. Depending on which word processor you are using you can go into the page setup and make these changes. For Microsoft Word go to the "File" tab at the top then to page setup. The first tab that comes up will allow you to change the margins on the page. If the print is too far down try reducing the top margin from one inch to 0.5. If that is not enough reduce it some more. Print test pages on regular paper, then hold them up to the light against the paper with the pre-printed band to see how the print lines up. That way you don't waste the expensive paper!

When trying to print Avery Labels L7160 the top few labels print within each label 'frame' BUT towards the end of the page the labels are printed further up and therefore are out of the label 'frames' ALSO...

For Word 2007/Word 2010
1- Click on the Office button
2- Select Print then Print again.
3- In the Zoom section make sure 'Scale to paper size' is set to 'A4'
4- Click on the Properties button.
5- Click on the Paper / Quality tab, then click on Advanced.
6- In the Paper/ Output section it has Paper size. To the right you have a drop down menu . Make sure A4 is selected and not letter, then click on OK.

3- There may also be other options in your printing preferences such as 'Print Area', 'Scale to Fit Page Size' or 'Page Margins. These will all need to be set correctly for your design to print 100% e.g. Print Area set to Maximum, Scale to fit Page Size disabled and Page Margins set to Minimized.

Some printers ( for example Epson printers ) have a 'Reduce /Enlarge' facility that defaults to 94% or 97% (instead of 100%). To set this to 100% click the 'Layout' tab and in the 'Reduce/Enlarge' section select 'Custom' you should then be able to change the scaling to 100%.

My HP 6100 series all in one wants to align cartridge

This document explains the different results obtained when using or not using the Automatic Reduction (or Auto Reduction) Feature. The following issues usually result when the Automatic Reduction feature is not set correctly:
  • Faxes printing too small
  • Faxes printing on more than one page
  • A blank page ejecting between each printed fax page
This feature can be turned ON (the default) or OFF from the Advanced Fax Features menu. The two main purposes of the Auto Reduction feature
  • Fits a received fax page onto the paper size loaded in the paper tray and selected in the paper size setting of the Basic Fax Setup. For example; if letter size paper is loaded in the paper tray and selected in the fax settings and a legal size document is received, each page will be reduced and printed on one letter sized paper.
  • Allows the addition of the fax header margin at the top of every printed fax without extending the fax onto another page. The fax header is printed at the top of every fax received with identifying information about the fax sender. Since this increases the overall page length, the page must be reduced to fit onto one page. Auto reduction slightly shrinks the fax as it is received so the entire page will print on one piece of paper even though a top margin is allowed for the fax header.

For some reason when I print from the HP Pavillion dv2000, my printer feeds a blank page through for each page I am printing.

Appears to be a relatively common problem for different reasons--sometimes system, sometimes printer. Things to check--page length settings, try reducing the printout size, margins. What's the printer and what size paper? Thanks

Printing Backwards like a mirror image

You need to change the printer properties.

You can do this a few ways:

  • Click File , Print , then click the Properties button.
  • Click File , Print Setup , then click the Properties button.
  • Click File , Print , Setup , then click the Properties button.
  • Click Print , Properties , then click Printer Assistant .
  • Click the Taskbar Printer icon.
  • Right-click the applicable 3740 icon in the Printers folder, then click the Printer Preferences button.

Click on the "Basics" tab.

The 3rd option under "orientation" will say "mirror image".

Make sure this is un-checked.

It sounds like there is 12 inch form length (or may be A4) selected on the computer system. The data from the system will take precidence over the 11 form length set on the printer.
If using Windows, ensure the Printing Preferences in the pritner driver are set to 11 form, Also check Printer Properties for a paper size ensure this is set to 11 inch
On the 'System' check the paper size selected within the application (if available) Check this is set to 11 inch form length
Check document margins to ensure these are not reducing the 'printable area' on the page. If availabe to a Print Preview on system to see what the document looks like.

If your application outputs raw data to the printer, check the number of lines per page assming printing at 6 lines per inch you can fit 66 lines on an 11 form. Check no more than 66 lines are per page, it sounds like 72 might be being sent befor a Form Feed in the data. (there may be a 1 line top margin set on the printer)

Finaly check the top margin setting on the printer to ensure it is set to 0 so you have the full 66 lines available on a page on the printer I think you would be looking to set the FORM ADJUST to 0 to adjust the top margin

Printing card

Postcards, 3-by-5 inch (index) cards, and other custom-sized media can be printed from tray 1. The minimum media size is 76 by 127 mm (3 by 5 inches) and the maximum media size is 216 by 356 mm (8.5 by 14 inches). Note You might experience some jams when using any media with a length less than 178 mm (7 inches). This might be caused by paper that has been affected by environmental conditions. For optimum performance, make sure you are storing and handling the paper correctly . Using media from another manufacturer might also help. Printing on odd sizes or weights of media (for example, small, long, or narrow paper) can decrease print speed. The decreased speed helps to prolong the life of internal printer parts. It also improves print quality with these types of media. Guidelines for printing on custom-sized media and cardstock Always insert the short-edge first into tray 1. If you want to print in landscape mode, make this selection through your software. Inserting paper long-edge first might cause a jam. Use the rear output bin to reduce curl. Do not print on media smaller than 76 mm (3 inches) wide or 127 mm (5 inches) long. In your software application, set margins at least 6.4 mm (0.25 inch) away from the edges of the media.
