Question about Hotpoint NWXR473EV Dryer

1 Answer

Our 473ET or GT is making a loud rubbing/shrieking noise. Sometimes stops, but is mostly doing it. Have taken the fron of the dryer off, but looks like the back has to come off to tell what is wrong. Help please.

Take the front of the dryer off again, remove the belt from the drum and remove the drum from the dryer, this will expose the drum rollers, motor pulley and idler arm.
Check to see that the drum rollers are good and do not have flat spots on them, if they have flat spots on them then they will need to be replaced.
Also lube the drum rollers at the shaft and bearing area with a good grade of machine oil, something like 3inOne oil.
Maybe this will solve your problem

Loud noise when the dryer turns on

Well, sir, it is metal on metal, and you did well to stop it. Someone will be needing to take the whole thing apart and find the problem. It may be easy because the metal should show where it was rubbing because it will be shiny bright.
Be blessed.

2007 Cadillac escalade makes loud noise when starting the car. Sounds like the air suspension on a navigator when it adjusts, but louder. Lasts maybe 20 seconds. Happened 3-4 times within the year. Any...

Try to better describe the noise.
Is it a
scraping of metal
grinding / rubbing
high pitched shriek like a drive belt slipping
Is it
underneath the body
under the hood
in the aircon
when you pull into gear
when you pull away
etc
Do a bit of detective work and come back.

If your dryer is not drying like it once did or if you just have not taken the time to give yourself a clean dryer in a long time then you need to do that. At least once a year the dryer cleaning should take place. Lint build up in the dryer duct is one of the main causes for your dryer to fail.

Dryer makes loud noise when operated.

Get your model number and get a set of glides or drum bearings, whichever your unit uses. Don't let this go too long or your drum could be ruined.

Kenmore Dryer 110 is making a loud squeaking noise.

Only a few things will make that noise. The squeaking is caused by a moving part having trouble turning while rubbing against a fixed part.
  1. The idler pulley is worn
  2. The drum support rollers are hard turning on their shafts
  3. The felt seals at the front or back of the drum is worn allowing metal to metal contact while turning
  4. An article has fallen into the housing around the blower wheel and the wheel is rubbing on it.
Listen for the frequency of the sound. The drum rollers and drum felts will squeak at the frequency of the tub turning. The idler pulley turns much faster as does the blower wheel. Knowing this will help pin down the cause.

Whirlpool dishwasher makes a loud notise then

The spray arms do sometimes wear and need replacenent, and are available fron spares centres.
The loud noise is probably the water pressure pushing it off at an angle, and instead of rotating, water will just escape out one side - so your dishes will not get clean untill it is replaced.

New GE Profile Dryer makes intermittent loud squeeking or rubbing

Your drum may be out of round. The drum belt on the outside of the drum may be rubbing against the cabinet. When the cabinet heats up, the side walls of the cabinet may be bowing inward, thus making contact with the belt on the drum. This would explain why it is intermittant. When the heater turns off, the cabinet cools and the sides bow back out.
