Onkyo TX-SR605 Receiver HDMI Issue

I have my Cable box plugged into my Onkyo Receiver w/ an HDMI cord and my TV also plugged into my receiver w/ an HDMI cord. The message i continue to receive is "STB blah blah. Use Component Setup". Why are the cords working and allowing me to set it up solely w/ HDMI cords?

I have a TX-SR705. I have both the HD cable box and the blu-ray DVD player routed (both via HDMI) into the receiver, with the "monitor out" to my LCD TV also HDMI. The picture quality tends toward reddish-orange faces until I disconnect each source from the receiver and re-route the HDMI cables directly to the inputs on the back of the TV. I thought the receiver was supposed to ADD to the quality of the picture, not detract from it. DO u know why this is?

Issues Displaying picture from HDMI upconversion

I've posted this other places. Hope it helps.

My HT-S6100 had a similar problem with my DVD player and some times with my Cable/DVR box. The signal wasn't getting received at the TV. So, first I changed the input jacks my DVD and Cable box are plugged into on the receiver (e.g. from HDMI 1 & HDMI 3 to HDMI 2 & HDMI 4). Second, I reprogrammed the Input Assignments to match (e.g. HDMI in 2&4). Third, I deleted any Input Assignments that weren't applicable. For instance, I'm only using HDMI connections, but there were Digital and Component Input Assignments programmed in. When I say I deleted them, I actually set them to "----" (just scroll through the options and you'll find this.) Finally, I turn on my video/audio sources (PS3 in your case) and let them load/warm up before I turn on my Onkyo receiver. It seems to be working. Good luck.

Do you have your other components wired to the Onkyo. The monitor output isn't the best way to go. If your TV has component inputs or an HDMI you should run one of those instead, running a composite video cable will only get you analog at best.

If you are content with running analog you may need to go into the menu on your tv and select the type of video input you are using. The same goes for your receiver, switch the output to analog out.

Connecting PS3 to receiver via HDMI

First put the orginal ps3 cable onto ps3 then to tv.set tv to see ps3 and go to ps3 setup, now down to display settings, set to hdmi, picture will go off so now switch tv to hdmi input .Next go to sound settings for ps3 and set to hdmi if your amp can work this way ,if not set sound out to optical.
hope this helps.

HELP: Onyo Remote Does Not Recognize Receiver when using Cable

Since you have the cable connected to the reciever thru the HDMI, you may have accidently changed the input source of the reciever from HDMI or digital to analog.

When you have the reciever set to listen to the cable, check the input mode and make sure it is set to use the HDMI or digital input and not the analog.
The rca jacks are analog, and they worked, so I think you have just solved your own problem without realizing it.

Let me know if this works and if so a good rating would be appreciated. Thanks and have a great day

Tivo HD will not record when Onkyo HT-SR800 is off

Do you want to run all your cables thru the receiver? There really is no benefit for you to do this since that receiver doesn't handle HDMI audio nor do any kind of component to HDMI conversion. Might as well connect your tivo box directly to the TV with HDMI. You'll have to switch inputs on your TV between the cable box, but its not a big deal.

Video disappears within 30 seconds

Hi Mark

I am going to take a stab in the dark here...

Did you plug the hdmi from the receiver to hdmi via the monitor hdmi output? this is needed so when you change the device on the receiver ie. between setop box and dvd the monitor changes with it accordingly.

You may also need to go to the setop box to set it to use hdmi output at the right frequencies 720p 1080i or 1080p.Also set it so it only sends the picture via hdmi but audio still with optical out.

good luck
