Question about Philips 55PL9773 55" Rear Projection Television

Shuts off...happens a lot, then stops for a while

Is it the lamp or a timer issue? I love the TV. Silver rather than black, nice face on the tv, very sleek. almost 6 years old. virtually no maintenance.

Yes it was helpful. I love the TV. Bought it 5.5 years ago. no issues except this one which is very recent. I llke that it is a brushed silver, not like every other black tv. I read that the life span is 7-10 years. I was wondering if you agree with that statement.

My lamp burned out and I got the replacecent lamp from samsungparts.com, but the housing didnt fit into the tv. So I put the new lamp in the old housing, after verifying the lamp was the correct part...

According to an aftermarket lamp manufacturer, there are 2 different lamps (1st and 2nd generations) available for the Samsung HL-R4667W, but only one of them will actually fit. The lamp that is commonly associated with this model, BP96-00826A, is used in housing that has a silver bump protruding from the opposite side as the front face of the bulb itself. The other type, BP96-01073A, is placed in a housing that has a smooth back face and a overall larger bulb. I can verify that the HL-R4667W that I own seems to have the second type of lamp.

As long as you didn't open the housing of the lamp that you purchased to try to install the lamp in the housing that your TV came with, you might still be able to request an exchange from samsungparts.com, given the circumstances.

47in dlp tv that turns on then shuts back off

The lamp may be bad or a fan has stopped running. Remove your lamp and see if it's shattered or dark and gray in the center. Also your lamp timer could have reached it's limit. check your manual to see how you can reset the timer only if the lamp looks clear.

TV acts like it is turning on then shuts off then repeat, repeat

When my lamp died the bulb literally exploded. That may be what you heard. Have you check the lamp? If the lamp is ok, the lamp's ballast or power supply might have blown.

HLP, HCN HL-S The Start-up Problem or/and
3 LEDs in the front blinking.

Unplug the set, pull out the lamp module (not all the way - leave it on the track) and push it back in.

Power issues (Tv not turning on) were typically due to faulty ballast. While the TV reports a bad lamp it is the ballast itself causing the issue. Samsung is well aware and will replace both the ballast and the lamp (since the lamp can be prematurely aged but the bad ballast). After replacment most people stop having issues.
