Normally if it is a front loading machine then you need to take the front of the dryer off.
This will expose the drum, roller, etc.
Remove the drum, install new belt on the motor pulley, loop around the idle arm roller, then install on the drum and reinstall the drum, reinstall the front and job complete

Maytag gas dryer broken tumber belt. how do i replace it myself? the tumbler doesn't turn, the belt thah goes around it is broken. i need to put a new belt on.

Each dryer is made differently on how to access the drum (tumbler) and belt replacement. If you can provide a model #, that would be very helpful. On most dryers the model# is located on the door frame usually to the left when you open the door. This will get you started in the right direction.

I have a maytag dryer that comes on and heat up but it want spin

Sounds like the drive belt is either broken or slipped off of the drive pulley. You will need to ope it up and check. If that is the case, a new belt (ordered from Maytag) will get it working again. Most dryers are opened by removing the entire front panel, door and all. Once that's removed, you should see the drum, and below it somewhere, an electric motor. There should be a belt going from that motor around the entire drum. If that's not there, you need a new belt.

Got used dryer from friends and they showed me that they worked. Now the dryer won't even turn on. What did I do wrong during instulation?

If you're sure that the plug is fully inserted into the outlet, check the electrical panel to be sure that the fuse or circuit breaker hasn't operated; interrupting the circuit.

The next thing to do is to make sure the door is fully closed. Check to make sure that any "tab" on the door ( it is designed to enter an opening on the dryer door frame) hasn't broken off. The tab is detected by a switch in the dryer door frame when the door is closed. This lets the dryer know that it is safe to start. If the tab is broken - it will not start.

You didn't say if it worked after you got it home - or not. Nor did you say if you hear any noise when it is running. If it didn't work once installed, something may have become damaged in transit. It is also possible that the drive belt has broke - and needs to be replaced. You would probably hear the motor run if it was a broken belt however. If a belt replacement is required, check this link for help.

If you need more help, please create a new request and be sure to leave a detailed account of what has happened since the dryer last functioned properly. Be sure to include the model number of the dryer - as Maytag has built *many* different models.

Please rate this reply if it was helpful - and good luck!

I have an older model dryer, and recently installed a new belt on. But now the tumbler is a little offset. Is there an adjustment for that. (Model # LDE8410ACW)

Chances are that when you installed the belt you either didn't get the drum aligned on the drum wheels. Unfortunately you are going to have to remove the front panel again and the top and reposition the drum so that it sets on the drum wheels located on the bottom back plate. you will also need to make sure that when you install the front panel that the drum is riding on the felt around the door opening evenly.
Sorry, I have had this happen to me before. Not a big deal just time consuming.

Broken belt that turns the drum

While I don't know about your specific dryer, most dryers are set up the same. I just replaced the belt on my Maytag LDE8404ACE. It was easy. The hard part was cleaning out 14 years worth of lint and fuzz that coated everything inside. Here's the instructions:

1. Unplug the dryer or disconnect power.
2. Remove the front panel. There are two screws, each is about 4 inches up from the bottom of the front panel. Unscrew them. Then hold the front panel along the bottom edge and pull it away from the dryer. Once it's away enough, the clamps along the top will pop and disengage from the dryer. Be sure to note the wires connected to the door switch are connected to the dryer. Disconnect them if you need to move the panel away from the dryer.
3. With the front panel off, you should be able to reach inside the dryer to remove the old, broken belt.
4. Remove the tumbler from the dryer. It's held in place by the tumbler front which is secured by 4 screws, 2 on each side. That piece will pull straight out toward you. With the tumbler front out of the way, the tumbler itself will come straight out as well. I recommend taking it out and cleaning the inside of your dryer while it's open. A vacuum hose works great. Also, check the pulley and the back two wheels that the tumbler rests on to make sure they turn easily. If not, you may want to grease them. Also, it's normal for the idler pulley to appear to be loose and wiggle in place. Once a new belt is installed, it's under tension from the spring so any play that exists shouldn't be a problem.
5. put the new belt around the tumbler with the smooth side of the belt against the tumbler. Use the old belt marks on the tumbler to align the new belt. It's easier to hook the belt to the idler pulley and motor pulley from the back. So we'll get to that part in a minute. Just let the belt hang loose for now.
6. Reinstall the tumbler front and secure with the 4 screws you removed earlier.
7. Reconnect the wires to the door switch, if you removed them earlier.
8. Reinstall the front panel, reversing the steps you took to remove it in #2 above.
9. Go to the back of the dryer and remove the access panel along the bottom right hand side.
10. From there, reach in pull the dryer belt around the idler pulley. Then take the belt on the left side of the pulley and move both the belt and the idler pulley to the right, until you can get the grooved side of the belt onto the motor pulley. I've attached a diagram with instructions.
11. Once connected, manually turn the tumbler so that the belt will align and make sure the tumbler turns as easily as it did when you first removed it.
12. If the belt looks good and you've manually turned the tumbler at least one full revolution (to ensure the belt didn't get twisted), then plug the dryer in and turn it on to make sure it works correctly. If so, then re-attach the access panel on the back of the dryer. You're done!0798e0b.jpg

New belt

First put the belt around the small pulley, shd be the motor pulley i think. Then ease the belt around the big pulley & gently move clockwise if the pulley is on the left side; anti clockwise if you are inserting on the right side. The belt will fall into place. Actually it is very simple.
