Thanks for the info. I am not sure that I would agree that these are too difficult to take appart. The problem is that they appear to be built around the tape transport mechanism so getting to that means that you have to be willing to go all the way. My ZR65 seems to have failed with the tape mostly ejected. I was able to push down on the catch on the lens end and back on the one on the eye end and release the tape (not a big deal because I had just backed it up). However the eject machanism appears to be frozen. This mechanisim cannot have gone more than 20 cycles in its entire life so it is very frustrating. I was just setting about to convert 8 tapes to DVD and I got through one. AGHH. Now I ahve to beg or borrow annother mini DV to finish the job...

I don't know if it is possible to "reset" the tape eject mechanism or if it is blown due to a motor failure or sensor failure. I can't see how it was anything else as it died after sitting on my desk. It had been on for some time with the capture but no rough treatment.

The "remove Tape" error message on Canon DV camcorders is a general message meaning something is not correct with the tape transport system. These are miniature precision mechanisms and It could be anything from dew sensors to head motor, capstan drive etc. If the cassette drawer closes OK with no tape inserted then the tape sensor/ end tape sensor is operating. With no tape inserted the head drum does not run when the drawer closes but it does with a tape present. Does the head drum start up when you load a tape or is there no noise at all? If the head runs then it is possible the capstan is not starting or is jammed. If the head does not run then the cure will be either extremely tedious and delicate or very expensive. These units do not dismantle easily so unless you have some experience with this, or are willing to take a risk, then I would not recommend it. However, without such action you may have to write-off the unit anyway. Canon's repair charge will exceed the camera's value unless it's still under warranty. Your best option would be to find a local repairer that is willing to look at it, but I wouldn't be too optimistic .To some, this error message is a major issue when deciding to buying canon dv cameras. However, they are great little cameras and treated kindly will give many hours of excellent service. Don't store the camera with tapes loaded. don't subject it to sudden temperature changes or excessive vibration. Store it in a dry protected atmosphere and refrain from taking it onto the beach (salt AND sand !!!!) when on holiday etc.

Canon ZR60 Mini DV Digital, remove the cassete message

This is a tape transport problem and is expensive to fix. Unless you know a cheap tech, it's time for a new one. Be patient loading and unloading tapes. This is usually what causes this problem. The Yellow warning sticker is REALLY important. Another important item is to always use the same brand of tape because switching tapes causes a gummy build-up the makes tapes get caught in the machine.

Will Not Load Cassette

I have the zr850 which I have used less than a dozen times, and it does the same thing as you describe. Was told by canon tech people to try a maxell brand tape and a head cleaner tape. Have not tried their sugestion yet. camera is 3 months old.
