Was the monitor working prior, as in was it working then stopped? If yes confirm if you can by hooking it up to another computer. Sometimes it may be your video card. (I have seen a simple pump on the side of the cpu case dislodge the video card enough to cause the monitor to go blank.) Once you are sure get a new monitor, they are much cheaper and better than just 2 years ago! Will cost less than 2 hours in a computer shop.

No...Either the unit is not getting power or the motor pack has failed and will need to be replaced. Try another electrical device in the same outlet if you do not have a meter to measure voltage at the pump. If the device such as a lamp or radio works then the unit is getting power...unfortunately there is no repairing those pumps so you'll need a new one.
It has failed, although if you open it up carefully, there is a...or there maybe a fuse like a 13amp but of a much lower capacity which sometimes after some usage blows. This usualyl renders the unit dead as a dodo. Frankly its always best to buy new .... dirt cheap on ebay!
The modern adaptors are 'switched mode' that allows them to accept a wide range of input voltages (typically 100-240 VAC).
Unfortunately, they have some components in them that are critical to their operation and on these, many mfrs. like to cheat on quality.
This causes the early demise of the supply.
I saw Acer supplies offered at <$20 US searching on Google so I suggest you replace the supply.
Note; this may not fix your problem anyhow as most laptops have a bit of circuitry inside to control the input from the pack and choose whether to use the battery or not.
If that fails, the unit may not receive input from either.
i have had the same problem and i have resolved the problem as following :
- measure the output tension on the external power unit ... she must be 12v ... on my unit i had 10v!!!
- open it (it's difficult but not impossible) ... look at the 2 condensers 1000uF 16v ... change them and you will retrevie the 12v output and your frame picture.
- an another solution is to buy a another 12v-3A external unit
whenever youve got problems with your charging unit, check out if the capacitors are busted. but i its not, dont take a risk and buy a replacement instead. lets just avoid accidents with that. hope this helps.
