Computer does not recognize camera

My Nikon D50 will not connect to my computer. I have downloaded pictures many times and have not had any problems. It just suddenly stopped connecting. (I am NO pro, so dumb it down for me:) )

Using WP. There is no icon present. The camera does not even show that it is connected. I've used the USB cable to connect the camera to the laptop, then turned on the camera. In the past, the camera would always show "PC", but nothing now.

I've had a Nikon D50 for 2 years. Never had a problem. Downloaded images to my computer last week. I returned from a cross country trip with camera. Tried to transfer images to my computer but the computer doesn't recognize camera as "f" drive nor is the pc symbol on the camera. This occurs with both my desktop AND laptop.

I have been using my D50 for over a year and today (after thousands of downloads) it won't recognize my D50 in the My Computer folders. however the device manager recognizes it as a disk drive and the Windows XP sound happens when I plug it in and out.

I just downloaded these same pictures on my friends computer last week while travelling - their hard drive recognized my camera. And my computer recognized my Canon SD without issue.

Hey,

which windows version do you have?
This nice nikon camera use usb to move pictures from camera to the hard drive inside your computer.

In normal operation there will be an small icon on the status bar, just at the left side of the clock. Computer does not recognize camera - 0f26291.gif
as you can see in this picture inside the red circle.

Is this icon present?

    hey,

well there are a few things i would try i had this camera in my hands:

The easiest test is: Start testing if the camera works on a other windows xp or vista computer.

If you camera don't work on another windows computer then:

Check The usb connector on the camera it could have bad soldering: check this Olympus camera movie, the usb connector just fall of try to twisting, wrenching the cable care full to see if it do any difference.

    else:

If the camera works on another computer:
Try reinstall servicepack on your windows installation.

hope this will help you getting closer to the solution

Computer does not recognize my nikon 3200 camera

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

Welcome to Fixya

Try the alternate way of transferring the pictures to your computer instead of using cable.

do you have a usb cable to connect your camera to your pc?
Then generally by pressing the power button once the usb cable is connect, your pc will recognise your camera and then follow the onscreen instruction.

Nikon D50. Viewing and Downloading Pictures. First Time.

you have change the image quality to "NEF-(RAW) + JPEG basic"
on your camera so it will not be recognized by some programs so change this go to menu on your camera then shooting menu and go down to image quality and change it to something like "JPEG normal" but your other images will be bad quality if you try and blow them up because they are designed for E-Mail and other things
