Question about Brother Sewing Machines

4 Answers

My Brother EX660 sewing machine has become LOADED with lint and dust, to the point that I need to open the machine and blow it out. I have it almost opened, but cannot figure out what is keeping it from opening near the head. Can you point me to an online schematic? Thanks! Aimee

Thanks, but I have my user manual. It is not the operation manual that I need, but a service manual--I need to actually physically pop the case open to get at the insides.

    Thanks,

    Aimee

Is there anyone who could tell me how to "pop" the case on my Brother EX660 open to get at the inside? I need to get a ton of lint/dust crud blown out of it, as well as check to see why the feed dog lowering mechanism isn't wanting to do its job.

    Thanks,
    Aimee

Thanks folks, but what I need is a SERVICE manual, not the operation manual. I need to know how to pop the machine itself open.

Thanks everyone for trying to help, but PLEASE, I don't need the user manual. I need to take the machine APART--to open up the case and get inside, and there is something near the very front that is keeping me from getting completely at it, so I need to view a schematic in the SERVICE manual.

    Thanks so much,
    Aimee

Hi Aimee,
I found the manual for your machine here
I'm not sure where your dust is collecting.
There is a description on page 57 about how to clean out the bobbin case but it looks fairly straight forward.

Hope it helps anyway.

My tension is too loose, have tried adjusting the dial and still cant tighten it. have a brother fashion faces machine lx 3125. it is relatively new three or four years old not much use

Check the upper tension discs for lint: Raise the presser foot to open up the discs and blow or 'floss' between them. Any lint or thread in there will prevent them from giving the proper tension.
Good luck!

Brother EX660. Lately, every time I fill and/or change the bobbin, I have problems with the tension. I've cleaned the machine several times - sometimes that helps, sometimes not.

What kind of problems are you having?

The newer plastic bobbins can be damaged and end up with little burrs that catch the thread briefly and cause problems. Also check your thread spool... is it catching the thread and going zing and winding the thread around the spindle? (tension problem right there.) I use a thread sock to prevent this on my industrial machines. But I have noticed that this sometimes happens on my domestic machines too.

Clunking noise when sewing flannel new machine

try changing the needle
clean under the needle plate for lint, flannel has quite a bit of lint
make sure the bobbin is turned the correct way in the bobbin case
try rethreading the machine top & bobbin

The bobbin case keeps rotating and jamming up. I have to open the cover and move it back into position

Are you using the right size bobbins? It requires a SA 156, I use the metal ones that I buy on ebay, 20 for $8.99 and free shipping. Less trouble.

Breaks thread often jams

Providing you have set the tensions properly and using a good thread you should not have any problems, however, if the machine needs retiming which it may do because it is computerized it will be a shop repair.
