It can have leaks from the condenser to the bucket. The piping and hoses should be checked all the way. Perhaps even replaced or at least cleaned. I don't think it is wise to do this yourself. Because in the system also can be algae, bacteria and viruses. And you need tools and skills to replace defective tubes, pipes or gaskets.

Hi,

In your case you have a refrigerant leak and the unit is low on charge...unfortunately till you find the leak and fix it, then recharge the unit, you will have more money into the old one then to buy a new one...

Here is a tip that I wrote that will help you understand why and what you can do with a dehumidifier that ices up.

My dehumidifier was running fine until the other day when the water would leak out rather then collect in the pan. Does this mean I need a new dehumidifier?

Before you go out and spend money, check the drain hose to see if mold may have built up in it blocking the drainage.

Leak

Mine did this last year. I took the housing off of the left side and found a clear plastic tube had popped off the fitting, I put it back on and it worked fine. The tube was toward the lower front of the unit.

Dehumidifier leakage

My dehumidifier leaked after about one year of perfect operation. I unscrewed the face plate exposing the cooling grill and found out that debris was blocking the drainage hole that fed into the water bucket. The debris came from zip ties used to bunch some wires together. Apparently they got brittle (from the constant cooling and warming?), fell apart and managed to make it's way to the drainage hole. Cleared it out and worked fine again.
